HI all.
I just located a pile of 3/8" rebar in 4 foot lengths and was thinking about making them into water T stakes for the bottom end of cable slides.
I am going to weld them down about an inch so they could be hit with a hammer if needed.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

I like to push them in with my foot, the little nob would be hard on my boot and foot. X2, Hammering under water gets a man wet and cold. B

Make a driver. I used a piece of 1 1/4 thin wall conduit about 4' long. I cut a slot In one end so It would go over the cross piece on the T stake. Then you can either just push the stake In or hammer It In.

For none T bar stakes Like 1/2" re bar just use the same conduit but just find a piece of cold roll that will fit Inside. Place It so It's about 4" or so up inside the pipe. Then either weld It In place or drill a few holes all the way through so you can bolt It In place. But If you have a welder you can just burn through the pipe and weld the slug In place.

I push them down to under the water, then stomp them in the rest of the way.

My question is how do you pull those t stakes under 3 or more feet of water. Driving is the easy part in my clay muck bottom. If I can’t pull them up by the drowner chain or cable, it can be a real predicament. I built an extended slide hammer puller, but I’m curious how you guys do it.
But to the original post, I prefer true T stakes with the cross piece on top of the rod. I welded them myself, and I’m no pro welder, but I drive them with a 3 pound hammer and pull them with the slide hammer all the time, all year long, and so far not a single one has broken. Now tomorrow I will probably break 3...

I have found In my type of bottom that T bar stakes or regular Re bar stakes come out pretty easy. Now wood Is a different game.

Now tomorrow I will probably break 3... I drive them until they’re only a couple inches underwater, and I use the T to twist and pull. I have no reason to drive them to the bottom. I hammer an annealed nut a foot from the bottom of the rebar. This keeps my drowner’s loop from riding up

Thanks for all the responses - lots to think about.
I guess I don't see the need to drive them underwater. We have a lot of clay bottoms here so in most places two feet in the ground, 1.5 feet in the water would still leave half a foot out of the water for easy pulling.

Brian Yep, you’ll be good as long as you hammer an annealed nut close to the bottom to keep your loop from riding up if you’re planning on using them to anchor the deep end of a drowner. Having a few longer ones comes in handy when anchoring the deep end of beaver cables in deeper water
