Every year I go deer hunting during the first part of November close to Phillpsburg Kansas. Most years I’m pressed with time so it’s just a deer hunt for me. This year I was thinking about taking about 40 mb550s with me and running traps after I get outta the stand in the AM. My question is would those dogs be primed up decently that time of year normally or would I just be doing predator control? I’ve shot a bunch out there but it was normally earlier in the year when I would go out and scout when I first started going deer hunting out there

Well I would be there around the 4 or 5 th of November this year. When I had shot them in the past it was in the middle of sept calling them in. I can deer hunt a lot of property out there and the multiple farms properties I deer hunt on have a bunch of cattle so they want as many as they can get gone. I haven’t been able to go earlier the past couple of years so I haven’t really been able to put a hurt on the coyotes as much.

Actually your better off early than late on yotes. While they won't be filled out like they are in Dec, they are salable by the first of Nov. Just won't bring the big bucks! Your coyotes will sell better early than late, Jan and later have lots of issues by the first of the year, but it gets later the futher south you go.

Well if I’m too earlier I get you I still could probably get more for some of those dogs than the fully primed dogs I get out here. From what I’ve shot in the past and seen you guys is a lot better

The fur will be fine. But tread careful early trapping. Skunks, cats, coons etc. will clog your traps. All have to be released unharmed. Everyone knows everyones business in that part of the country. Out of staters are welcome to spend money but making some may be a bit different.

Possum, that for sure can be true, but it applies everywhere you go to trap. A good coyotero is welcomed by the landowners, but always causes jealousy with local trappers that think he is catching "their" fur! That will never end, too much human nature. involved! Good luck to you, there is a pretty decent yote in that country. The skin will be blue on the pups for sure yet, but the fur is good, the belly is the last to fill in. Good luck!

I've trapped Southwest Arizona starting November 1st and all coyotes sold well. So no doubt coyotes are saleable by November 1st in that part of Kansas.

Thank you lee! And well noted about the other trappers. I haven’t had any resistance from the people when I have shot them. And one year I shot quit a few. And to my knowledge I know almost no one that traps yotes out on those farms. When I’m deer hunting I see 5+ a day in November.
And lee.... I’ll have to get one on order then!

If it was me I'd wait a couple weeks. Once fur season is open you wont have to release skunks. Now I doubt many game wardens would say much about an incidental skunk dispatch but IF someone called Pratt GW would have no choice but write a ticket. Also incidental bobcats. Some of them are pretty valuable. SOME of those big toms are very marketable early. You really want to watch 250 bucks run off?

No I wouldn’t want to but the only problem is I like hunting the rut out there. Best time is second or first week of November for that. And cats done really prime up until mid January right?

The cats are pretty well prime by Christmas. Those always look great to me then.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you have permission on places by all means. Plenty of critters to go around out here (I'm about 15 minutes from Pburg). Coyotes woke me up last night. I honestly think the deer hunting is better the last two weeks of Nov. than it is the first two but might be different for different properties. Come out, have a great time and harvest all the deer and coyotes you want! If you forget your dirt sifter/catch pole/etc, look me up and I'll loan you an extra.

3/4 price is better than no price, deep snow, someone else already caught animal, later on when fully prime

Sounds good to me guys! I wouldn’t mind one bit to come out a little bit later to catch some yotes cats and shoot a nice deer. My dad shot a 191 incher last year with his bow.

I’d post some pics but I cannot get my iPhone to cooperate with this website. I shot about a 145 incher on the last day. But god did I see a lot of yotes and cats
