What are your thoughts on using trap dip like Dakota line snare dip or full metal jacket for canine traps. Is there a need to dye or wax them before or afterwords? Excluding dips with gas or paint thinners.

I dye and wax mostly but have been experimenting with Dakoline dip and am liking it. You can wax over it or dip inFMJ if you like

Dakota line works good and i like it, but i figured out how to pretty much make my own with paint and thin it down with water

^ seems like Dakota line is thinned latex paint of some sort.. I prefer natural dyes myself. Dont like paint or anything foreign to the woods, just how I prefer.

I always hear people talking about FMJ. But I wouldn't doubt Dakota Line's dip is just as good. I've been wondering. I haven't tried both kinds.

Isn't that acrylic floor wax according what I read on Trapperman?

Enough people like those dips that they probably don't hurt the traps, but I question that they do any thing that helps?

Tannin (leaves, bark, hulls, berries) neutralizes/converts rust and hot melted paraffin wax penetrates, lubricates and protects like an oil soak might.
Paint over clean dry metal will protect to the extent that it covers ad adheres but will likely not penetrate the smallest cracks and crannies.

I think things look worse on a small scale versus a larger scale.

The wire on my mop is galvanized, after a couple years corrosion turns the metal into a very rusty, flaky rust

Why wax over any dip? Why not just wax the trap to begin with.
I powder coat my canine traps.
