I have a few older xtr's and they are terrific shooters. If they had them with detachable magazines they would be the only rifles in my gun room.

JMB never designed a turn bolt. Just saying. If Mauser were still alive Winchester would be paying royalties to them the same as our government did on every 1903 Springfield until the WWI broke out. The Browning is actually substantially more different from the Mauser than the Winchester is. That being said I own a couple of left handed stainless classic model 70 with walnut stocks and the only Browning I own is a 10ga auto lol.

And jmb designed just about as many of Winchester rifles as Winchester did. In fact jmb's first design was sold to Winchester and the Browning family took the eight thousand dollars that Winchester gave them for the 1895 hiwall and built a factory with it. Browning designed most of the Winchester lever actions. Winchester even bought manufacturing rights to Browning designs that were superior to the comparable Winchester model and never put them into production to avoid the costs of retooling.

Oh, and least we forget John Moses Browning designed the 1911ACP, not Sam Colt.

browning. hate that goofy Winchester safety. I hear a lot of guys complain about the three-position safety. What don't you like about it? I have no trouble operating the one on my old 1963 M70.
Eh...wot?

I would get on gun broker and try to find a mod 70 that was made in New Haven. Seems like things keep getting cheaper as in cheaply made these days. The ones made in the south might be good, not sure. Never owned a browning. Jmo

Osky I still have nightmares about the mod 70 XTR that I had. Probably the only gun I have never, at some point, wished I had back that I have sold.
