I don't have Diabetes but have been tested for it multiple times to rule it out as nerve problems I have... They will usually stress test your blood sugar levels which requires fasting over night and then drinking a certain amount of high orange sugar liquid in my case.. Then drawing blood to see where your body regulates your glucose level. Dave

The glucose tolerance (5hour mentioned above) is one way, it can determine more subtle aspects of Type 2 diabetics.

The “do I have diabetes, yes or no?” way is test blood glucose after at least 8 hour fast (usually just first thing in morning). Diabetes is indicated by fasting BG of over 126. That is sort of the definition of HAVING diabetes - fasting glucose over 126. The 5hour glucose response/tolerance test is more for pre-diabetic and type 2 treatment assessment. 5hour tolerance test does nothing for Type 1, because there is no tolerance once you HAVE type 1. The 5 hour tolerance test can indicate that someone is becoming Type 1, but usually that period of onset is short enough that the 5 hour test is never done for Type 1 because a C-peptide test shows lack of insulin production during the testing your doctor will order to diagnose the first symptoms that appear.

If your fasting BG is over 126, you are diabetic. No other possibility other than maybe super rare exceptions. From there you will need a C-peptide to determine if you are Type 1, and if Type 2 you will get glucose tolerance test. 85% of diabetics are Type 2, I am the one of the unlucky 15%...

I would say good, BUT I am not a MD. Used to be 120 then 110 and now it is 99 or below for fasting glucose.

Well, unlucky is Type 1 if you dont like to have your life depend on a supply of insulin that must be injected into your body. I guess on the plus side, Type 1 can eat about whatever by shooting the proper amount of insulin. And no pills, just needles, with insulin being a natural normal hormone while the pills are mystery drugs. I still kinda wish I could pop some mystery drugs and drop the needles though.

Fasting blood glucose 92 is just about dead center perfect. Most non-diabetics will test 90-95 fasting, 92 is dead center. You are not diabetic, not even a little and not even maybe.

You can in fact become type 1 diabetic at any age, but the most common ages of onset for type1 are between age 7 and 11, and age 20 to 30.
And yes many type 2 eventually become Type 1 years down the road for reasons too complex to explain in this post.
