There are probably some trout ponds that could entertain young kids. Call the Chamber of Commerce for advice and the namme of a local fly shop in the area.

Most of the streams in this area of NC are private, but I live about 30 minutes from Boone in Tennessee and we have some really good trout fishing and I'd be happy to show you a few spots. I will see of I can figure out a couple spots in NC where the wealthy haven't bought up the land and made it private Wait....private streams?

NC if you can float it you are legal I couldn't imagine having a law where you couldn't access waters by boat at least - walking is a different story though. Down here on the coast it is the high tide mark, not gonna have that in mtn streams.
To the original poster I know if you stop or call some of the local fly shops they can point you in the right direction. I have seen some places where you can park and walk down to a stream all over that area though? how good the fishing will be??????? nuther story.

In NC, it all depends on the interpretation of navigable waters......the surface of navigable water is public but both shore lines and the bottom under the water are owned so you need permission to access the water or stand in the water or on the bank.
Good luck finding a spot to fish.
