Hey everyone, I've been a creeper on this site for a long time. I finally decided to join the cool kids and get an account and start posting. I had my best year ever trapping bobcats and sent them to FHA for the auction in May. I received my lotting letter and much to my surprise I had all kinds of cool color variations on my letter. So heres is the question: What is a blue bobcat, a silver bobcat, and a grey bobcat?

NAFA resource shows colors about half way down;
http://www.nafa.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/NAFA_TechManual_2009_LynxCat.pdf

Another NAFA tech manual to help understand their grading, I know you said FHA but these are what I have bookmarked;

ed.>Found the FHA manual, it doesn't address color much, but;

I don't think FHA sends out lotting letters. You can log on to your account and see the information there.

If you don't have an online account, call North Bay and they will get you set up.

In the first link compare the backs of just the "a) Eastern Blue" with the "d) Eastern Red" use these as a base to interpret the other shades.
To me, typically 'blue' in animal color is a blend of black and white hairs and 'red' is any shade of orange.

Since you live in Colorado you need to come out to the auction in February. You'll learn more in a couple hours than you can imagine, plus the help would be appreciated. Blue, silver and grey are not normally good grades, all three tend to have off color bellies.

I would love to but I'm not willing to close traps to drive across the state in the middle of the best part of the season. Why do they hold the sale then? Seems like a terrible idea.

Only so many many days in the season to have sales. We are primarily a coyote sale but the education ability is price less. Where are you located??

I think the blues are the prettiest. We get some here that have blue backs and clear, wide, well spotted bellies that the buyers really seem to like.

I'm about as far away from the fur sale as you can get and still be in Colorado. If they had the sale after the season I'd be there without a doubt. I know its a coyote sale and trapping coyotes in Colorado is next to impossible thanks to the trapping laws. So I hate to close my cages before the season is over.

Love the joke btw....

I've been trapping for 8 years and I've always been told that the blue cat's are the best cats. I always wanted to catch one. Now that I have 2 of them, I'm told they're not really that good. We'll see how they do in the auction.

So am I, but for over 30 years I have drove 400 miles across the the state to give fur takers a marketing option and daily education. Actually two of us do it. Would I rather stay home and run cages? YES but somebody has to do it.
