The recent heat wave has drawn much insect life to my hummingbird and oriole feeder stage. What are you seeing around your feeders besides the birds?

Humming birds are thick at our feeders haven't seen many insects at the feeders. Yesterday I dug out a water line I've been needing to fix and the wasp were coming in heavy to the wet dirt and mud.

No shortage of very small ants on the nectar and jelly feeders. The orioles, hummers, catbirds and warblers have been dining on them.

There aren't as many Bald-faced Hornets yet - only a few, but these big guys are here on and off all day long. My best guess is that they are a species of Yellowjackets?

That might be a sandhill or European hornet, Jonathan. They are big boys.

I was going to suggest the European hornet also.

Thank you for your responses! I accept a confirmed ID of European Hornet.
