I need help planning our trip through Wisconsin on our way to the NTA. The route I have mapped out is trough Dubuque, IA to Madison, Oshkosh on to Escanaba. I would like to stop somewhere about 4 hours from escanaba. Any suggestions on a campground in that area would be greatly appreciated. Due to my medical needs full hookups are greatly desired. I can move from this route, I would just like to stop about half way between Iowa City and Escanaba, or at least plus or minus an hour from half way.

We would like to stop in Wisconsin just so we can take our time and enjoy the state as we drive through. Thanks for any help.

By the way I don't want to spend 60 to 100 dollars a night and I want to stay 3 nights, July 22, 23, 24 and leave out of Wis. on the 25th.

I'm sure there is a lot of campgrounds around Wisconsin Dells. It's a high tourist area so you may need to check availability and prices. Should be about 4 hours from Escanaba and not to far off your chosen route.

It is what it is.

you camp and DON'T own a copy of Woodalls Campground Directory???????????

You'd be wise to invest in 1. Smartest $25 you'll spend this yr...probably cheaper at Amazon.

All campgrounds in NORTH AMERICA listed and rated and amenities graded and prices.

Pennisula State Park in Door County is probably 2 hours, Harrington Beach State Park is about 4. Both great places to camp.

He asked about camp grounds approximately 4 hours from Escanaba and close to his route. So I mentioned the Dells been through there several times. You live in Wisconsin and still haven't added anything of value to this post.

Yes I did I said don't go to the dells. All the camp grounds around the dells area are tourist traps. With wall to wall people.
Sorry about that Abu65 but neither have you. LOL

But I still don't know If the gentleman Is tent camping or has a RV It does makes a difference.

He did say he needs full hookups do to medical reasons so I was assuming he's got an RV or camper of some kind. I figured the Dells would have what he needed and regardless, it is a beautiful part of your state with many things to see and do for 3 days. Geographically speaking it is probably the prettiest area of your state however I am partial to hill country. But you can't beat the north woods for the Grouse and the solitude.

I think he should change his route and go north. I guess I'll Pm him and get a better Idea on what he needs.
That Isn't a Child friendly picture In my opinion.
Now us old guys are all In favor. LOL

You guys sure are a cantankerous bunch today. I will be pulling a camping trailer, I will have the wife and 3 daughters so I think Hals "niece" would cause me some troubles. I have to use a dialysis cycler at night so I need full hookups, plus did I mention I will have 4 women with me. I have a good campground guide, I just don't know Wisconsin as I have never been through that state and did not want to spend days searching for different areas.

I am looking at the sky high campground in Portage, WI due to its location on my route and the relative low price. If anyone knows a reason not to stay there I would like to hear about it now, not later.

Trapper Dahlgren, we will be arriving in Michigan on the 25th and we are going to be up there for about 4 weeks. The reason for this last minute change is that when I set my original plans the wife wanted to get to Michigan as soon as possible so we were stopping in Iowa and then driving straight through Wisconsin in one day. I don't like to drive over 5 or 6 hours a day when we travel because I want to enjoy the trip, not work all day driving.
We are now adding 3 days to the front of our trip so we can stop in Wisconsin.

Thanks for all suggestions and replies and welcome more as I have not cemented my new plans yet. Hope to see all of you guys in Escanaba.

Patrice it is a Trailmanor 3023, it pulls down the road as a 23 foot trailer and expands up to be a 30 foot camper. Are you guys going to be at the NTA?

Trapper Dahlgren, our plans for the UP are as follows:
1- Gladstone Bay Canpground
2- Lake Fanny Hooe Resort in Copper Harbor
3- Munising tourist park in Munising
4- Kritters Northcountry campground in Newberry
5- Mill Creek campground in Mackinaw City
6- South Haven at my cousins home

I think this will allow us to cover the UP pretty well. We plan on staying 3 nights at each campground and about 10 days at my cousins.

We are open to any and all suggestions on what to see and what to not do in these areas.

No, we're not going to Escanaba, but our home is on your way. If the date worked out right, you could pull in here for a night on your way through Wisconsin if all you need is electrical and water for one night?

Patrice, thank you for the offer but I believe we have found a campground that will work. We will be staying in Portage July 22, 23, and 24 and heading on to MI on the 25th. If it worked out we would love to get together with you guys for a bit of a visit. Let me know if that would be possible, we are just going to explore the area while staying there.

We'd love to have you and yours over to our place for a visit and a nice supper!

You might also want to check out Mirror Lake State Park for camping ...

https://wisconsinstateparks.reserveamerica.com/campgroundSearch.do

If you search for electric sites at Mirror Lake State Park in this online reservation site, I think they have one available during your dates for a decent price. I have never camped at an RV site, but Mirror Lake is a quiet and beautiful state park just a few miles up the road from here and near a lot of things you could tour. Worth a check if you aren't positive yet.

Peninsula state park is 30 minutes by water or 4 hours by land to Escanaba because you have to go 2 hours back down to green bay the drive back up the other side of the bay even though you can see Escanaba form the bluffs of Peninsula stat park.

that said Wyalusing down by Prarie DuChien is a butiful park with unique features https://wisconsinstateparks.reserveameri...mp;parkId=60044

as is Devils Lake state park

Peninusula state is also a favorite those are probably the most stand out state parks

there is some nice camping in a county park in Blue mounds not very far from cave of the Mounds a unique feature to see especially on a hot summers day and the camping is atop the mound so you get a great view and a breeze.

Kettle moraine North unit would also be along the way

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Check out the Indian Agent House in Portage. Sometimes they have some cool historical events going on.

Devil's lake... awesome for those of us that misspent our youth climbing up perfectly good cliffs. Tower Hill and Gov. Dodge State parks also good but more than 5 hours. High Cliff is the one that is on the way and within the 4 hour guidelines.
