I’ve got a 2013 foreman es. It got stuck in 5th gear a while back. I took the shift motor out and cleaned it up, it then worked good for awhile. Then got stuck in gear again. Cleaned up again and worked till I took it to the farm. Changed the shift motor and worked for 15 min and wouldn’t shift again. Now the funny thing is that each time it got stuck, if I couldn’t look at it right away, when I finally did, the dang thing worked. So now I’m thinking it’s a water issue since as soon as I get to the farm I have to cross a creek. Would water on a wire connection do this and which one do I look for.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I would pull that shift motor and clean where it mates up. If loses ground it won't work. Might also check the main ground.

I did clean up around the shift motor housing, the motor is new. Where is the main ground?

I will add, when it is working it acts like it’s shifting with a delayed reaction. Meaning it will shift, then slam into gear.

I had a 250 ES that had intermittent shifting problems. Turned out to be a failing angle sensor. Had the sensor replaced and the problem went away.

It sounds like your idle may be too high to allow a shift.

Can the angle sensor short if wet. I will change it out but don’t really want to throw another hundred dollars at it because I’m guessing.
Also, I thought the angle sensor was to shut the machine off if turned over, does it also affect the shifting.

The angle sensor is for shifting and is what goes bad normally when driven in snow and water. It will cause a no shift issue but it may not be what is causing your no shift issue.

I took the angle sensor off last night and checked it out, nothing looked dirty or wet. But before I took it off I started the machine and it shifted up and down like normal. This is the third time doing this. I’ll bring it back to the farm fri and pay attention to when it stops working, I’ll bet it’s after I cross the creek.

One last post just in case someone else has this problem. I took the ATV to the farm today, I drove very slow threw the creek so nothing got wet but after 10 min I put it in neutral and left it running. When I got back on it would not shift. I shut it off for an hr and tried again, still nothing. However, this time I was getting a code flashing, two long two short, = code 22. Which means angle sensor. I had a friend run into town and get one for me and bring it out to the river. Took 5 min to change and worked all day.
