What's the difference between single and double blade dirt hole augers ? I'm asking about the type we would use with a cordless drill. Probably 1 1/2" or 2" in diameter.

Is one type for faster digging, or better for hard ground, or more likely to clog up ?

I plan to add an auger to my equipment before season, just looking for some advice.

Thanks for the help.

Drew

Double flight augers have two cutting edges and removes material faster and easier without clogging,if talking about larger diameter augers they can be harder to clean with a shovel

Double flight all the way for making dirt hole sets or helping to loosen earth anchors. I bought one from Rich Kaspar a few years ago and it's top notch.

Thanks, for the replies. It gives me a bit of an idea what auger to look for.

Buy one with a HEX shaft, so it doesn't spin in the chuck.

Thanks Red Neck, that's a good tip about the hex shaft. I can't say I had thought of that, but it makes a lot of sense.
