At some point in summer there always seems to be a wax dirt post pop up. Now would be the time to make wax dirt if your so inclined. Looks like most the country is currently sweltering heat wave. So wax dirt could be made on the drive way no extra heat source required.

Yes, it's time for such a thread.
So what do most of you do---go out to the back 40 and just dig up some random dirt to start the process?

Yesterday I bought a container of waxed sand at FTA from Reusaat. I've never tried the sand before. Lesel is a good guy.

You'll love the sand. Traps bed like a dream. I just step out my door with a shovel and bucket and have all I need.

finished 5 gallons today, I sift dirt into 5 gallon bucket, next I put dirt into concrete mixing black plastic tray, it's about 3 by 4 feet with 8 inch high sides. I leave in sun for 2-3 days, bring in at night, this evaporates moisture out of dirt. sprinkle 4 pounds shaved wax on top. put clear plastic bag on top of tray, hold bag down with pieces of wood, in 2 hours when dirt looks darker, take a clean garden rake and work dirt around, put bag back on, repeat this till all dirt is darkened from wax. this works well if you are only doing 10-15 gallons of dirt

I use 1lb flake wax to 5 gallons of sand. This year I'm going to buy blocks of wax from Hobby Lobby and melt to add to sand.

When I make it I take it to next level. Put some ply wood on the bench in my wife's little 6'X8' plexi glass green house. Spread inch or so dirt on the bench threw my sifter. Sprinkle on flake wax wait bit stir repeat wax sprinkle, until get it looking way I want. That little green house gets so hot not sure why it don't melt in on it's self.
And of course was at FTA yesterday had my hands on big bag flake wax said I'll come back later get it. didn't want to have it turn to puddle in truck. Then got distracted like always do didn't go back get a bag or two?? total for got until I see my post lol!

Does anybody use the flake soy wax that you can get from candlemaking suppliers? You can get it for about $57 dollars for 50 lbs. I am thinking of trying it. Someone on strictly trapping said that is what you should use.

Will have 10 gallons made this week. Its the only good thing about this 90+ weather. I use 5 gallon of dirt with 5 pounds of flake wax. Got to go mix it now.
