I read the other thread about screwing up.....but got lucky....and thought I too need to get a good pair of chainsaw chaps. I generally cut by myself and need to get a good pair of chaps. So - what are some of the good brands that hold up and where do you guys that cut a bit get them? Years ago I worked for the state and think we used Stihl chaps and they were pretty good.

I've had the Husqvarna pants for about 6 years. I too cut alone and I've never regretted buying them.

Very smart move getting chainsaw chaps. I have the Stihl chaps but any chaps are better than nothing.

I searched around and see there are 4 layer up to 9 layer chaps. The reviews on the 9 layer Stihl chaps look nice. Price really should not be a factor as I am considering my family and there is no reason a good pair of chaps could not be passed down....I too have nicked jeans and boots. Chaps are just something I never figured I needed - but now I do - really there is no reason to not put them on when cutting. I also learned last week chainsaw accidents are the #1 accident at home - this made me think as well....
Any other reviews on good/bad chaps appreciated.

Stihl/husqvarna are both good.

The cost will come back to you in just wear and tear of your pants.

I have the Stihl chaps and have been using them for 7 or 8 years now. I believe I paid around $90-$100 or so. I have been happy with them and thankfully not had to test out whether they actually work or not, as I have not had any incidents.

They are a little expensive, but in my older age(I am 55), I look at it this way...if a $100 item keeps me from going to the ER...I probably am saving thousands. smile

I just bought 6 pairs for my guys at work. The stihl brand are the ones they like best and they were right around $90-$100 a pair.

I have had a pair of Stihl chaps for at least 10 years now. I have had one close call with them on and they did their job. Myself just like others on the board, I cut alone most of the time. I shopped around online and found my for 60-$70. I hose them off once a year and they are still good to go.

Another satisfied Stihl chap owner. Make sure when you get some that they are down to the top of your foot. Some are too short leaving your ankles vulnerable.

Stihl chaps for me. At 57 cutting alone two miles from the road behind a locked gate. Cut the pants not the skin or boots. I second the suggestion, get them long enough to cover the top of the foot.

Remember that chaps once damaged even one time need to be replaced, I honestly do not really care for chaps, I use these pants https://www.forestershop.com/forester-extreme-chain-saw-pants-pcos.html but they are HOT, great in the winter but just to hot for summer, I have heard great reviews about https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=8010 but at 300 dollars they come in abit spendy and I have not tried them yet.

X3 on the Labonville chaps, got them from Bailey's online. Already paid for themselves from 1 dumb mistake. I cut by myself quite often.

We have a pair of the stihl chaps and a pair of the husquavarna pants. Never wore the pants. The chaps are nice when you are working in brush. I do wear them when it is cold out. Problem I have is when it gets over 60 I leak pretty bad. I have had one close call. I finished the cut, turned the saw around and started walking. I did not set the brake and touched the heal of my boot. That is the worst that I have had. I do try to wear the chaps but sometimes it is just too hot out.

I have seen the chaps keep some from a trip to the ER. They were careless and not thinking. Keep your mind in the game, were your chaps and you will be good.
