In the last two weeks transmission in truck went down, rental house got broken in to and tools stolen, my renter backed out, the septic tank is full, blah, blah, blah

Just way to many expenses came up, even though the trip wouldn't be expensive it's the lost wages on top of cost
I'm really really disappointed about it

So I guess I'll have to settle for the Michigan convention in Evert to get the new traps I wanted

Just got back from FTA, now gotta make the same drive again. Wish the two organizations would get their heads together and keep them farther apart. Last year they were a scant hundred miles apart!

We will be pulling into town on the the 25th. Trying to get everything wrapped up so we can hit the road.

between work and the luck you all had at home during the fta sealed my fate.having to get around chicago and the lakes didn't help.

i'm about a month or 2 from finishing putting this farm back together also and the fact there is dozens of conventions within 5 hrs was the clincher.

like last year,i have to say next year.

Im gonna be up there monday to do a bit of fishing a few days before the show starts.

Planning on heading that way myself. Hope to meet several of you from this site.

Friend called and we are headed up there from Missouri. I was up there a few years ago and it was one of the nicest summer nights I have slept. We slept out in the open and it was very nice to not have near the heat and humidity.

Just a fair warning to anyone traveling up through southern Wisconsin. Avoid interstate I90/I39 from Wisconsin-Illinois stateline to Madison. 45 miles of seriously ridiculous construction and back-ups and accidents. Be safe in your travels.

Ken the UP is way different than KZOO. This ought to tell ya something - "The Upper Peninsula contains 29% of the land area of Michigan but just 3% of its total population." Come on down!

When I went to Alaska, I noticed that some places up there reminded me of the UP. The big difference was the snowfall and temperature. The winter of 77/78 in the UP was brutal with the snowfall, but not as brutal as the extreme cold in North Pole, AK in Jan 89.

Oh yeah !! The winter of 89 was just pleasant !!! )))))))))))))) 82 below here !!

Yep I live 18 miles from the fairgrounds in Kalamazoo where the NTA was held two years ago, and I was in Escanaba 4 years ago for NTA No comparison for city, people and geography

We tailgated at NTA Kalamazoo 2 years ago and my buddy sold a crap load of deer antlers. So I would say they would be sellable but that depends on price too of course

I like to wander too much to tailgate. I think I'll just bring them and if I find a buyer or trader I'll do that. Escanaba is a great place to have the NTA. I was there last time. If anyone is coming from the west there is a museum in Iron River that houses a WWII glider. Lots of gliders were made in the converted Ford plant there and the museum is worth the time.

Bringing the entire family. Wife and six daughters will be there with me Friday night and all day Saturday. Looking forward to it.

Sawyer is pricey to get into. But it is cool landing at an old AFB. Especially since they still have (at least they did) a few Cold War era planes sitting there on display. That B-52 Stratofortress is a big bird.

Dealer buildings close at 6 PM. Lots of action afterwards - tailgate area and camping area.

We are loading the camper and will pull out of here Thursday morning and arrive in Escanaba one week from tomorrow. We hope to meet up with Patrice and Zim for a bit when we stop in Wisconsin. So looking forward to this trip.

You just made my day thinking about that sweet Michigan weather (50's in July). I'll taste it Saturday! Rusty Johnson, Ms. Donna and I are headed put to charter fish and I may just let them both troll me behind the boat to get a bunch of that cool lake water all over me.

I’m thinking I’ll come up for Friday and saturday. Anyone know of any reasonable hotels? I’ll have a tent with me so could do that also if there is a place to pitch it. Any info appreciated.

Timber Hole -

Several years ago we drove up from Missouri and slept out in the open up there. It was some of best weather I have ever experienced for a few summer nights. It sure beats Missouri days in July.

Going to hit the air show in Oshkosh and the head up. I’m new to all this so wasn’t sure if camping was available on site or near by.

For anyone driving that doesn’t know the biggest air show in the nation is just prior to NTA and about 3 hours south.

Pulled into the fairgrounds around 1:30pm. It's a wonder I'm still awake. Probably won't last long.

Any construction delays along 127 or 75 through Michigan ?

Cones everywhere but traffic wasn't stopped anywhere when I was driving during the work period.

Agree with Sniper. There were a few areas of construction on I75 north and south but traffic was moving at posted speeds even in the work zones. The Big Mac was only one lane each way but no problem.

My delay was on 2 after crossing the bridge. Was behind a long military convoy and could only pick off a few at each passing zone and the line of them and trucks and cars mixed in were as far ahead as I could see. It was a slow go until they finally turned off of 2 about 50 miles from Escanaba.

I'm getting myself together to leave tomorrow night. Should arrive about 12 hours later in Escanaba, around 11am I hope, if not sooner. It'll be my first National, so pretty excited about going. Plus, it's trapping stuff, and trappers. What's not to love about that?

Made it to Canton, OH today. Will go to Grayling, MI tomorrow and finish the trip on Wed. Looking forward to visiting close to my old trapping area again.
