As far as gutting a bison it's a whole lot bigger in person, Moose are the same, only way a guy has never made a mistake gutting, well he has not gutted enough of them yet.

Gutted quite a few train hit moose, gut bag demolished-ruins a lot of otherwise good meat.

No, I just decided to word it differently. White doesn’t have a TV so he doesn’t know there’s no one from Tanana on Mountain Men. And any anti could say the same stop at the store crap to any of us. That’s who should get a vacation if any is warranted. I like the show as a pro trapping show and can’t see anything positive about that comment. Whatever! Just because you’re a moderator doesn’t make you right ALL the time. And I said no offense and I was sincere. That's right. I'm not right all the time. But I happen to right this time. My comment was about the guys from Tanana that Pete was referring to. Not the Mountain Man guys. Nevertheless, my comment about scripted BS still applies to Mountain Men or any of the so called reality shows. I too think it's a good thing to have shows on TV that display consumptive use of wildlife. Whether that's trapping hunting or fishing. I can easily separate poor comprehension from inappropriate comments. Only an insecure person would give a vacation to someone over a misunderstanding or personal insult.

Gotta give white credit for not being stuck to a tv too you know. I used to like the trapping shows but too much drama gives the wrong impression to people that think that’s really how hunting and trapping works. I don’t watch them much anymore. The last Alaskans is about the realist one right now. I was supposed to take part in a tv show but haven’t heard much about it since I Skyped with producers in New York and LA. Maybe they cut me when I told them I wouldn’t take part if the show was portrayed as a life and death type show. Indeed. A double edged sword with the fake scripted drama that also gives the REAL trappers and their lives an inaccurate impression. Especially the men who are in the outback with survival skills honed to a very sharp degree. There are ones who have EARNED respect and honour , and those who wish they had it. .... not referring to the show's actor.

the producers were most interested in showing me taking the kids out but they did like the idea of showing the tougher trips when I am alone.

Don't you dare pick on by friends, Tom and Nancy Oar! We go way back!!!! (Like to June 7th. - Although Zim met them and has been to their old cabin years ago.) They really were gracious and pleasant people, sitting at our convention in near 100 degree heat, putting up with people like me! All of the people who film those shows know that the drama-enhanced editing gets added after the filming. They don't know what the "voice of God" narrator says until they see it on TV. Besides that, I still love Tom and Nancy! I can no longer make fun of Eustace after Preston died. I will have to stick to picking on Sue from Life Below Zero for now.

What a great shot of youinz, Chickie ! I agree - and its known, that the changes or editing are from the powers that be in production that tweaks detail at times ....thats always the way of things. Ill leave to your discretion about Sue Be careful, she sure talks tough ! Could it be ........???? Be catching up with you asap .....have a wonderful weekend in celebration of life, Chickie !

Those buffalo were pretty spooky. They had a tough time getting within 25 yards of them to head shoot one. I love the show but was underwhelmed with that part.
I have nothing clever to put here.

LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must have been no parking spaces at the grocery stores in FAI !! No offense White but that’s something an anti might say to any of us who hunt trap or fish. I think Mountain Men is pro those subjects and we’re lucky it’s on TV. If it bothers you that much then turn it off and please avoid the subject. Sincerely. Horse Creek, I cannot understand what you have your panties all wadded up about. Are you saying that showing animals being shot inside a fenced field, where the production crew flew the hunters a couple hundred miles from the village, actually portrays a life and death/survival situation that shows hunters/trappers/consumptive users in a positive light? I don't think that White17 was denigrating a production crew's overall work in perhaps ATTEMPTING to portray hunters/trappers in a noble light. Only that while watching, viewers need to realize that much, if not most, of what they show is F A K E. If you think that portraying hunters/trappers positively is the primary objective of these types of shows, think again. It is NOT. The primary objective is the trick enough people into watching, that the show makes money! My opinion on this is based on personal experience. And for the record, I personally know most of the "actors" in most of the Alaska-based shows. Pete

Nessy, you should have seen them reminiscing with Zim about people they all knew back when Zim lived there in Montana. They had a few good laughs. I will just pretend I'm big-time buds with Tom & Nancy because I like them! They are really that likeable though! Yes, maybe we can all go out and try to shoot a deer while the voice of God narrator says that "they have to get this deer or they will risk not having enough protein to get through the winter." Every time I see Marty Mierotto (from Mountain Men) in the mess hall at Alaska Fire Service here in Fairbanks, I breathe a sigh of relief. He is ALIVE! He was not actually devoured by a pack of rabid wolverines on his way back to the cabin from the outhouse in the dark in the last 2 minutes of the latest episode. Tune in next week to see if he survived! Cue the drum roll and scary music... Pete

Too funny, Pete! I remember scenes where the narrator would say the temperature is below zero and Marty might not make it back to the cabin and you could see water dripping off tree limbs. That's the thing. Marty doesn't know when he's filming what the voice of God is going to narrate over the footage later! Those guys must watch the shows and laugh. They show Tom looking at something moving in the trees ... what scary animal is about to attack? ... They cut to commercial and replay Tom looking ... then out pops his dog, Ellie! Pirogue, that buffalo gutting episode was a rerun from the week before. I saw it last week, so when they ran it again the other night and I knew the buffalo gutting mishap was coming, I told Zim to LOOK QUICK at the TV! He thanked me for making sure he saw that right before supper.

Marty tells me that he often refuses to do stupid stuff that they want him to do. He says he gets along pretty well with the videographers and they share that understanding. Let's face it, the camera and sound people are depending on him to keep them alive out there. But once they ship that footage back in to the production studio, all bets are off! The editors and producers literally INVENT chaos and consternation and dub it in and voice it over.
And that is precisely why I refuse to participate in this sort of nonsense, even though I agree with the Horse Creek guy that it is great and wonderful to at least have trapping portrayed in a somewhat positive light. It would have to be portrayed in an ACCURATE light for me to be talked into it.
And believe me, as the past President of ATA I get a Metric S**** Ton of calls asking me to do it! When I tell them I won't do it, they ALL (and I mean every single producer...) promise that they will be the one who finally just documents instead of making stuff up.
They are so transparent. Which is obvious when I ask if they would mind giving me veto power over any of the finished footage! "Oh no, we could never do that...!"
OK, no deal then.
Pete

Pete Well put, Pete ! How totally amazing it would be to video real documentaries of those who tend their longlines in the bush , in the far north places, and elsewhere. Who wouldn't be proud to see that ? The made up tales would pale in comparison to the real life experiences every time. Not even a blip on the radar . Im betting some of the actors in the series would even love to participate in that if possible

It’s understandable I’d think for an older man with bad arthritis to make a mistake on a bison sized animal. I just hope I can still walk, hunt and trap at his age. Shoot I hope I live to see his age. Anybody know how old he is?
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.
