I picked this horn up at craft shop where people rent a table and sell they stuff on consignment. I think it a buffalo horn but maybe that's because that's what I'd like it to be. Anyways it was only $2.00. is there any way to tell if it's from a cow or a buffalo?

I'd say it's from a bull just because of the size, that could be a fine black powder horn, or a spoon or ladle. I've seen a few get turned in a knife handles .
Cow buffalo horns generally aren't very large in diameter and almost spindly.

Looks like a buffalo horn to me. Seen plenty at rendezvous and many made into western fur trade era powder horns.

Looks like buffalo to me. Most cattle horns would be longer with a base that big and usually not that abrupt curve upwards with that big of a base.

It certainly looks like a buffalo horn to me. Good horn for accompanying a Hawken/Plains rifle.

I have yet to work one. But from what I've heard they are more difficult to get a good polish on once they've been worked.

A few ideas if you're thinking of making a powder horn from it...

I'd say it's of a bull bison.

Buff Horn generally has tighter curve than cattle and is invariably dark colored. I agree it’s a buff.

Plain old everyday cow horn. You see them in every draw in every pasture in northwest kansas.

After looking at it a little closer I see some long curly hair a at the base, confirming the buffalo thought. I don't plan on doing anything with it other then putting on a shelf and gawking at it. My Mife always asks what I'm going to do with stuff like this, like the brass spittoon I found at a garage sale for $5.00. I tell her it's my cool man stuff! I don't think she understands!
