How often do you pour it off??

I haven't yet, and won't til October when I take it down for good. This is my first attempt. Oil for an ingredient/lure, and tail pieces and bone bits as bait ingredient.

Gotcha. I was kinda wondering if I need to pour the oil off or just let it sit and ripen.

Always draw oil from the top to keep the layers of juice and solids separate from the oil. Siphon or baster drawing works well.

If you are going to use tubing for a gas vent just make it long enough to horseshoe over to one side to prevent water from entering and cover the end with a small piece of cloth or panty hose etc. and tape it to the tubing.

Ken & Tom, a vent isn't needed for BTO, but when a vent is needed, an aquarium airstone epoxied in place has zero maintenance, unlike the wino vent where water evaporates/spills. FYI some using airlocks fill with glycerin since its thick and won't evap much...allegedly.

That Gamma Lid screws on and off for easy peasy access as opposed to the fight that some 5 gal lids require.

Thanks for all info and ideas everybody, I'm thinking it's gonna be a while before I have draw off the oil, there's already about 3/4 of an inch in the bottom, but I'll definitely be getting a baster Bob, where can I get the gama bucket lids john?? It's about yote bait making time.

I drilled a hole in the lid and screwed in a barbed brass fitting.

Got a BTO question.

This spring I cut up a bunch of tails and put them in a 5 gallon bucket, put the lid on and left it outside until this weekend. I pulled the lid off and checked it out and it looks like mushroom soup. There did not appear to be any oil on it. I stirred it up and it certainly has a strong odor but there does not seem to be any oil.

Is my bucket of cream of beaver soup good for anything? If it gets hot will the oil separate?

I always think of plastic is OK for the season to carry it around and short term storage and glass is my 1st choice for the long haul and aging batches.

Watch them Gamma lids they do not do well in the direct sunlight they fall apart rather quickly, for the price you would think they would last longer then a summer in the sun.
