Ok y’all, what’s the difference in making beaver tail oil in a plastic jar verses a glass jar??

Thanks aix sponsa, I was pretty sure the plastic jar wasn't gonna be a long term tool, but I'm hoping it'll work for just 1 run of oil.

I got mine going in drywall mud pails. It works great to lay a paint rag over the pail top before you snap a lid down on it. I have them each in a black garbage bag setting inside my greenhouse. It gets 120 F in there.
PS...use the blue pails, they work the best.

These are food grade containers. They have been on the roof since spring if 2017 Fish in the small ones and beaver tails in the bucket. Working fine to this point

Me either yes sir, but I had the jar sitting around, so I figured why not try it. I’m gonna give it a few weeks and start pouring off the oil. I guess.

this might be a dumb question but I don't know the answer. What does everybody do with the oil when done? Lure, lure base?? I heard there was big money in that oil, but I might use it in lure/bait formulation myself.

If I ever go for what I’d consider a big batch, I’ll keep that in mind trapper les.

I have a couple hundred tails in the freezer I can lop up when it's raining or I don't have anything else to do. I need to free up freezer space too.

When I need to decompose something quickly, I have black buckets I use. Placing them in the sun really absorbs the heat. I don't use the special black buckets that I use for the black bucket otter sets though......

I've got some in a plastic jug that's been sitting on the roof since March. No problems so far. Making a LOT of oil. Probably 1/2 gallon of tails, chopped into 1/2 cubes. Probably about a 5 inch thick black oil layer on it right now.

I do like Paul dose, use black bucket for the tail oil. It works for me. I use the oil for my dirt hole set. I put some gland lure on top the hole where the coyote will smell it and then squirt some oil in the hole I also give a shot of coyote urine on the side of the hole. It makes the coyote work the hole when there is nothing they can grab to leave the set.it works for me.
