One old strip mine area I trap is almost impossible to dig a dirthole because of all the rocks. I have a few locations where I have managed to drive a rebar stake in and dig out a trap bed for a flat or post set but a bait hole was out of the question until last evening. I loaded the generator and hammer drill on the truck and drilled a few 2" holes about 18" deep. Now all I should need to do come trapping season is clean them out.

Why not stick a capped piece of pvc in them and they'll be clean when you need them?

Will water drain from them?

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Almost definetly NOT. In my trapping world, very few things work like the text books says!

Lay two of those rocks parallel and use a third rock for a roof, or just random pile some so that a tunnel develops and put the lure/bait inside.
Life is just as hard as we make it and if you think about it, I'll bet you can figure out where the coyote/fox/cat was just before it entered the quarry and maybe find more dirt there. In the old westerns on TV the good guys always said "lets cut them off at the pass" and though it made no sense in the shows, it might be good advice when trapping.

TJM, It's not really a quarry. It's a 400 acre rocky, shale/slate flat that has been planted with pines and locust to prevent erosion and is covered in golden rod. The habitat holds lots of rabbits and thus is a good predator feeding area.

Flat sets with partially covered traps cabled to pine and locust trees or rocks. You may be surprised at how little trap disguise it takes to catch a coyote.

What tjm said. Go back and make more holes. Then cover all the hole's with rocks so the hole's should not fill with water. Than cover with more rocks. Put some dog food and or corn in the pile. Stuff some newspaper, an old sock or 2. Washed. Now you have a mouse condo. Sure to attract predators.
I spike rock and log piles on every scouting trip.
And while your out there with the drill you can drill holes in a few rocks to be your on site drags.
