It was the documentary about Jim Elliot and his group which were killed by Aucas in Ecuador. I have a lot of familiarity with the events, a friend of my dad's led the party which recovered the bodies. I have met Mincaye, the person who speared Elliot, he has been to the US many times now. My son went to the Auca village and visited the beach where they were killed. I worked with one of the victim's sons for a while here in Minnesota. I didn't see the movie, but I know a lot about the true events. I have heard that the movie was very historically accurate.

REFERENCE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_the_Gates_of_Splendor Possibly- Beyond the Gates of Splendor (also Beyond the Gates) is a feature-length documentary film that was released in 2004. It chronicles the events leading up to and following Operation Auca, an attempt to contact the Huaorani tribe of Ecuador in which five American missionaries were killed. The film was produced by Bearing Fruit Productions and distributed by Every Tribe

I think I am confused about the timeframe of the movie....the story may have been well earlier than the Elliot story. Does this sound more familiar to anyone? It seems the movie was released only 3-4 years ago, if that.

The lost city of Z? While they weren’t missionaries, Percy Fawcett of Royal Geographic Society and another were murdered searching for the fabled city. I read the book haven’t seen the movie. Reading the Lost City of the Monkey God now. A massive city state was rediscovered in Honduras. It was completely untouched since the day it was abandoned around 1500 AD. Good read That's IT! Ok, how I confused that with missionaries is beyond me, but this is the movie I had been trying to remember. Thanks you tomahawker.
