I will be so glad when cool weather arrives. I am pretty sure that I stood in the middle of the worlds largest covey of chiggers. I'm scratching like a flea covered chupacabra. I AM on a scratching rampage for sure!
If your mind draws a blank, turn off the sound, because ya can't learn a thing if you're doin all the talkin

The only thing worse than chigger I've ever had was some amoebic attack on my lower legs from wading in water that was infested from being the perfect temperature. Darn near scratched my skin off even steroid cream(anti-itch stuff). Only thing that helped was soaking in ice water till legs were numb.
I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Permethrin!! Spray it on your clothes any time you hit the woods pre frost. Magic stuff. ^^^Yep this. If you don't have permethrin, Use deep woods off right before you go out. I spray my boots really good with it and also raise my pants leg and spray my socks as well. Also keep my shirt tucked in and spray my belt line and collar really well. It helps.

Have you ever thought how bad it would be if a chigger weighed a pound?
Rickey They was that big you could pry them off.

Permethrin as a preventative, a prednisone pack for treatment of a bad case. Call your doc, tell him you got chiggered up and need him to call one in for you.

I found the following to work for me:
1) Get one of those shower heads on a wand 2) Take shower 3) Using the wand directly on the bites (sometimes even rubbing them), slowly turn up the hot water, until it is more or less scalding. Try to take the burning pain for a few minutes. 4) Flip the water to ice cold, and cool the heated areas down 5) Get out, dry off 6) Wait a few minutes before getting dressed. After 3-5 minutes, there will be ball of ooze/goo on top of each bite. Wipe them off.
The above process gives me about 8 hours of solid relief. Enough to go to work. By the time I get home, I'm dying to do it again. After about 3 time, or a day and a half, they are done. I think getting the goo out also helps to accelerate the time for them to heal. Same treatment as for Poison Ivy. The itch is caused by a rush of Histamine to the affected areas. An OTC Anti Histamine helps, and scrub the area with water as HOT as you can stand. This will drain the Hisamines out of your body and you get 6-8 hours of relief, and you can get some sleep.

I went to our hunting lease in Illinois for the first time last July to cut shooting lanes and hang stands, my two buddies knew how bad the chiggers were and thought it would be funny to not mention it to me, I ended up with about 100 on around my nut bag, I was about ready to castrate myself. Needless to say this year I had 2 bottles of permethrin and never got any. Definitely good stuff

I always thought chiggers was something you got while swimming. I was metal detecting in the water at a beach one summer. Afterwards, I was full of bites identical to the ones shown by RJ. I assumed they were chiggers. I still metal detect there, but wear a wet suit when I do.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.
