Only trouble I ever have with mine is driving in 4 hi. Hit a bad spot unexpectedly and need to power out of it the power aint there. Have even killed the motor. Mine has the 3.0 When I bought it the sales man told me the 4.0 was 10 more HP and it cost 800 more. Don't know if it would matter. If your in 4 low they are geared low enough you drop into deep mud or snow you didn't anticipate, mashing the gas pedal gets you results. The short wheelbase, good ground clearance, extremely short turn radius, means you can drive into, and out of, places you probably shouldn't have. I hope the new rangers are as reliable, longlasting, tough, and go anywhere trucks the originals were. If they are I may go buy one. Think I'll drive my 98 over to have a look

The new ford engines and trannys are great on gas,my new f-150 does between 9.2 and 9.8 ltrs\100k as long as I don't drive like a maniac. I see the new ranger has the new turbo engine and 10 speed tranny-it should have excellent gas milage.

Wonder where it's made. My last truck was made in Mexico. With the problems I've had, I'll always check the assembly location before buying another one.
I used to work at the Ford plant where Rangers were made. Ford always threatened to move that (and every other) plant to Mexico...Have to wonder where they will build the "Assembly" plant.
