Doctors even cant give you a definite answer on that.Spectrum goes from 0.5-1.5 depending on who you ask.I got the pre exposure vaccine in the early 90s when I started my nuisance control business.Didnt get checked till 3 years ago when I got bit by a bat.Doctor didn't even bother checking titers,,ordered a booster. He said better safe than sorry, cause once you show symptoms TOO LATE.So I would recommend, any chance of exposure, unless you had one in the past couple years, get the booster. Here what ever your insurance wont cover,,the health department covers the balance.

Someone asked if pre-exposure treatment was expensive. I have blue cross and they paid everything for preventative care. Seems like i had 3 shots at $300 a shot.

Forgiveness is just a prayer away.

Rabavert is the vaccine which is given in series and if an actual bite occurs RIG is given as well which is the immunoglobulin. Contact your local health Dept for info regarding titers as they are they one's who maintain and regulate the distribution of the vaccines. We have ppl show up to the ER all the time wanting a vaccine and they get referred out after the initial dose or just referred out if it is requested. Titers are nonexistent for general medical doctors. It's cheaper and easier just to get a booster shot of Rabavert. Health Dept also tracks and follows everyone who gets it to ensure they complete the series.

When I had a Questionable Contact Event...that's how I phrased it to the Doctor after 3 caged coon dispatched blood and a cut on my arm. I asked the nurse the doctor on the phone if I needed to come in and they said, 50-50 chance I said 50-50 chance of what and they said 50-50 chance you're either going to live or die so you make the decision.I got the Shots.

LOTS of 70 and 80 year old trappers who never wore gloves. Thousands of animals skinned, cuts, nicks, etc. Had to have handled some rabid animals. Can't be that easy to contract.

That said, I do all I can to minimize my risk.
