I am looking to get a few more footholds for beaver. I would like to cover all my bases in considering what to get so I ask the question.
What is the best beaver foothold available, and what makes them the best?
I realize there will be a multitude of answers, the reasoning as to why a particular trap is best is the part I am looking for.

Thank you.

I only own a few, but I've used them on and off now for years. The #5 l.s.

This question has come up many times, I'm sure most were pruned away now, but the overwhelming choice by the most trappers on Trapperman who have responded is the MB750.

They make up for a lot of mistakes a trapper may make, they catch and hold terrific, and though there are some other traps that do the same like the CDR, the MB750 is more affordably priced.

I used some duke number fours, and they were ok...then tried some 750s..Ya, they are all they are cracked up to be.

I have not tried them yet but the new dogless K.O. Beaver Extreme trap from NOBS Lures is getting some nice reviews from some darn good beaver men that I know. I am planning to add some to my arsenal.

Another thumbs up for the MB750. I've never used them, but a friend of mine swears by TS-85s.

For coils, and if money were no option, I'd use strictly CDRs. I like the pan a slight bit better than the 750. If money were a limiting factor, I'd use the bridger 5 coils. All closed jaw, of course.

I've had a great sampling of all 3 of the above. The bridger has the larger pan, the CDR has the better system on dog but the 750 is dogless like the 650. If any of those facts are important. All three are probably nearly as equal in holding a beaver. Although the 750 may have the cake there. Trying to take a beaver out nearly requires setters.

Another factor. The CDR is the best maintenence wise.

We use TS-85's fur trapping and ADC work. It is an awesome trap. I have no experience with 750's, but I don't see how it could be any better than the TS-85. They are about the same in price too. I love that the TS-85 is dogless. I like the big pan. Plus you're covering more ground at 8.5 inches. For us there has been no downside to the TS-85.

After I passed 50 beaver in the No BS trap this spring all of my 750's are being replaced. The ones I haven't sold are for sale.

I LOVE TS-85 but its to big for me to use. I have a couple #5 longs and they are fun to use and bed like a dream. For the price you cant hardly beat a Bridger #5.

CDR’s. Back when Carl and the boys were makin them. Don’t know how the newer ones are. Bridger #5 LS after that.

I would take a Bridger 5 LS, ts85, or cdr over a 750. I haven’t caught as many as some of you big beaver guys but a fair share and the 750 with strong springs and tiny levers can be less than fun to set or take a big back foot out of when it’s 100 degrees and your swatting skeeters and sliding around on a muddy bank. Yes the 750 holds well, but I never had a problem with the others mentioned holding and found them all easier to set. Maybe I am just a pansy.

The mb 750s have setters to make them very easy to set and remove animals from. They are way easier to set than any of my #4 or #5 long springs. I don't own any of the other traps because I feel no need where I already own enough of the 750s to satisfy my needs.

I am aware of the setters, lost them almost immediately. One more thing to carry and keep track of, just wasn’t for me, but I am admittedly not a big beaver guy..

I think it's to each there own. I know I wont ever try any of the other traps because I don't trap many beavers either and you dont have to drown beavers with a 330

I wish I could use a 330!

I like Duke #4 because they work and are cheaper than most if someone decides to borrow one.

I plan to try Bridger #5 coil spring, #5 double long spring and also the MB750 coil spring.

I like to try different traps! It is like my lure addiction. You can’t have just some. You need a bunch!!
