while I don't see NICS going away any time soon

some things can and should be done if it is going to stay in place.

things that don't need any new laws.

first falsifying a 4473 is a federal crime , prosecute it , not after the fact but every single time a Deny is issued then an investigation must be opened.
some people really don't know they are on the list because it was a fight 30 years ago and it got reclassified a domestic abuse but they never served any time for it or are on the list in error then a small fine with a signed understanding that they are never to try again or rectify the error but if they have been to prison and full know they are prohibited back to prison.

second - all fedral agencies could easily be ordered to start with today and start working backwards with every court case be it federal court or military court ensuring every case that resulted in a prohibited status comes up deny.

third Governors could order the same thing a review of cases at at state court level.

when it is't a free try and records are corrected it will be better. it will never be as good as the FED wants people to think it is .

but they are failing miserably to do what they said they could do so they should fix it or abandon it admitting they can not nor ever could do what they said they could.

but they won't because it doesn't fit the narrative.

they want the masses to feel good that they are taking care of it for them. even though they are not.
and if it fails they can ask for more money to fix it or more restrictions , both just a give more give more never mind we screwed up give more again plan.

compromise only works if both sides have something to give.

it is n't really a compromise if only one side does all the giving.

I know people get confused and say well we were asking for x, y and z but we will settle for just x an y but that isn't a compromise unless they have A and B and are willing to trade them for X and Y

it is best to think of a real compromise like an algebra equation you can't take from one side unless you take the same from the other or you can't use the = sign any more

finn he was 25 and had multiple convictions. unless he got those multiple convictions, including one for strong arm robbery of a woman in front of her kids, when he was 14, why was he not still in prison? article says two thefts but doesn't say what the other convictions are. time to lock up people who commit crimes where there is a clear victim, and leave them locked up. 4-5 years maybe for the first one. Any more after that they need to be old and feeble when released. If they get released.

i would concur with statements that the current laws need to be enforced AND prosecuted.

The BATFE doesnt care about straw purchase attempts, or people lying on the form....

Its pretty ridiculous actually, that there are all these laws and penalties and no one ever gets charged or convicted.

heck obama let all those firearms go across the border and they killed the border patrol guy, and nothing..

A few more ten millions flushed into the bureaucratic toilet of the ATF might catch a felon attempting to buy a weapon. Whoopity do. I have no evidence but I am confident most felons do not do a NICS check when they purchase a firearm.

a significant number of them get their girlfriend to make the purchase , find one just over 21 promise her this and that sweat talk like they do , he goes up for the drug dealing ect.. she gets to keep the babies and go on welfare. a win win ghetto paradigm.

Did you know if you ever had just ONE dui in the 1970s in PA. you are a prohibited person from buying or owning a gun. Its because back then you could have been given a sentence of 3 years. So you can never hunt with a gun again or check traps with a gun or have one in your home for protection. should that person be prosecuted and made a felon because of a dui when he was 20 years old and is now 65? Look it up.

I know several guys with a DUI and they still hunt and buy guns. Is it only the old DUI's that can't?

Yes. These days you need 3 within 5 years to be prohibited. talk about making criminals out of people that arent.

A long long time ago, I wanted to buy a .22 rifle to dispatch trapped animals. Since I was really uneducated at the time, I didn't know if I could pass a NICS check, since I had been arrested recently. I had my mom fill out the forms. Five days later she was called and told they'd not heard anything from NICS and to come pick up the gun... which she did. A month later, we got a phone call saying she'd been denied for the NICS check, due to an arrest for an open container 20+ years ago, and that a ATF person would be there presently. We removed all he guns from the house. 9 months later, after no one having shown up, we moved them all back.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought...

"Well yeah, outlaws buy guns every day. Chicago is living proof of that."

They're stacking the dead like cordwood in Chicago. But my 19 year old can't buy the pistol he has been wanting.

Please tell me again how the system we have is stopping gun crime.

Mike
