uh oh. now you done it.
I like stuff that will catch whatever finds it first. I have a species in mind when I make a set but what I think is the right spot for a coon has more than once produced a coyote fox or cat, or vice versa. I'd rather make a cat set and catch a coyote than not catch anything. have caught plenty of cats in spots no one (I don't think) would make a cat set, but my coyote attracter interested the cat that found it first.
cats are a lot pickier than coyotes

Sure simple is easier to make! But why wouldn't a maker try and capitalize on every trait a predator has? If x is hunger y is territorial z is sexual don't you think the bait with just x is going to lag behind the formula with xyz? Now im not a pro but that's pretty clear in my eyes.Dont get me wrong I believe in the kiss method as much as the next guy. But theres a time and a place for it.

I'm just a beginner but logic leads me to think there could be both simple and complex lure formulations that can be attractive to Target animals. And also keep in mind there more than one way to skin a cat... I'm respectful of the guys that say this is what works for me but cautious when someone says my way is the better way, best way or only way.

yes sir I agree I have a few one trick ponys and a few complex ones as well. my records show the complex ones out performed in all situations. Does that mean the simple single one gets the chopping block no! use everything to your advantage! If it only costs me time to make it not many critters are needed to make it profitable

Reading between the lines I'm guessing u guys think simple is better What is the difference between "complex" and "simple", if they both get your animal to the designated area? You say tomayto I say tomahto but at the end of the day if the bait gets the critter to commit then it has done its job. If you have to spend hundreds of dollars on leet ingredients or build magic boxes and bury2 feet 6 inches and age for 3 years or until you reach that vintage odor to achieve that goal, then more power to yah.

That might be the difference, right there. You could throw a piece of steak on the ground and attract a canine regardless of time of year so I'll ask again... What is the difference between complex and simple???? Jus help meh understand, and lets stay on topic regarding "bait" not lure. But wait if bait lures animals in too is it Lure? I'm all balled up and confused It's ok if you run out of material, interesting though.

tdhp whats your definition of complex versus simple? to me complex is multiple items handled in different fashions. Ok simple drop a mouse in a hole! Complex gallon fresh mice groud up half tainted 3 months preserved mixed with the other half that's fresh preserved. essential oils mold inihibtors, freeze proofing, fixatives, lift. that's a complex formula. sure the mice will catch but a formulated odor will out perform it. If not the government would'nt spend millions on research. If all it took was a handful of mice to end the predator population. We would be seeing yotes in books instead of traps

That's standard practice and would be simple. Sorta like a common sense thing especially if you wanted to use the bait in the winter, some type of freeze proofing agent would be used. Along with a carrier because odors shine in cold temps. I was hoping for an answer. I'm always up for a good deception/verbal judo response.

I hear you, but don't they love everything anyhow? If you are referring to all the baits that are talked about on this forum, then you are correct. People complicate bait because X Y and Z said they "found" the next best thing since sliced bread for an ingredient. They may not "love" it but they don't have to "love" it for a bait to get their attention. They do a solid job at digging out holes when testing, does that mean they love it? I'm no Dr. Dolittle so I assume they "like" it. Some people posses those powers on here, I'm sure they can tell you what is really on a canines mind. For me simplicity is key to attract canines. People who need to come up with these elaborate ingredient lists should prolly reevaluate trap placement. Because it is not hard to attract canines or any other critter to an area/hole that is baited, if you have them to begin with. More times than not, it's trapper error. jmo seems you were the one bragging about simple and running down "elaborate" formulas. If you need someone to explain the difference to you then maybe you shouldn't have been talking about them.

And, it's obvious that you are all balled up and confused. You don't have to tell us. Very confused and wrapped around the axle right now because you can't tell me what complex is. That grasshopper is why I was asking because what was stated ^ up dur is pretty basic. My 8 year old can throw together a pretty appealing coyote recipe and get pretty darn good responses through out the year. Does that make it complex? I would like to know your details because I want tew learn from you, but if you can't tell me what I'm trying to find out at the moment, I'll wait.:)

You are on a roll lately. This side of the forum has been purdy quiet. Best responses come when you go against the grain, as you already know. Too easy..

Am I? lmao, comical Im asking what complex is and I'm told aging meat for 3 months and adding oils. I love it! Heck the kids do that without any help, does that make it complex? I asked a question and you couldn't define it. D>T>I>P.. just a thread that's your answer to complex? At least im trying to help not confuse or discourage

Ok that sounds good. I want to use it as fresh from beginning of season till end since this is all i have for this season. Thanks You still have time to taint some bait, then add some Dobbin's Bait Solution, and fix it...before the season. But, better get started next week. 1) Grind up some meat. 2) Taint it for 3 weeks. 3) Add bait solution, and let it gas off for 3 weeks. 4) Bottle it up. 5) Throw it in a hole, and sharpen the skinning knife. Right there is sound advice ! Not meant to confuse or belittle. Kind of how it should be I'd say.
