I don't honestly know on that technique. Sun rendered I let mine go till the fluids in the jars are almost gone.

I don't know how the fluid could disappear with the oil on top if you were sun rendering, not very quickly anyway.

I saw a clip on YouTube where a period reenactor, mountain man, rendered his in a skillet over a fire and used it for gun oil.

I saw that too. Just didn't know if it would change the oil smell at all. Guess there's no point in taking the oil off until the season anyway so I'll let it keep brewing. Thanks!

years les ive got jars hitting the 6 year mark!and are about petered out.

It might change the smell by rendering in a frying pan on low heat but I’m not sure it would be bad. Has anyone ever tried it? It looked just like the sun rendered on the video.

Sorry but it looked like a a waste of good tails to me the chunks make a preety good stand alone bait after sun rendering. Cant say the same for the frying pan method
