UPDATE***** Just seen the vet today and this is what he recommended, not sure that this is what I'll use because thanks to everyone I have a lot to research. Anyway he said to use Simparica for the flea and tick treatment which is 85 bucks for 6 months. He also said I should use ProHeart 6 which is a heartworm shot every 6 months for around 40 bucks. How many squirrels and coons will she have to tree to pay for all this lol. Thanks everyone for the replies!!

Soresto collar. Works great for me. I haven't had fleas since I stay using them. Lol. Seriously though, they cost about 60 bucks and last 8 months and my dogs have not had any flea or tick problems and this year is bad in my area.
Wish I had more time to trap....

As I mentioned above, nothing I tried was keeping fleas off my dog, none of the topical medications worked. I tried Frontline, Advantix and the Seresto collar. At best I’d get a couple of weeks out of them then the dog would be infested again. There’d be a dozen or more fleas crawling around on his crotch.
In desperation I called my vet and they recommended Credelio, a once-a-month chewable. I read clinical studies on it and they were very positive so I bought a three-month supply. It works, the fleas are finally under control.
Eh...wot?

Nice Lug, glad you found something that works for your dog! I had my pup out in the hay fields and woods today for the first time so we'll see tonight if she is critter free lol.

What did you end up getting, the Simparica? It looks like I might, so far, but I will be looking into that Credelio. Vet is giving me free samples of the squirt on the back of the neck stuff till she reaches 6 months old.

I have found that a good flea bath first and THEN the withers liquid does a much better job.

Seresto collars worked the best in the past 40 yrs of bird dogs!!! They don't live long enough as it is, why poision him all his life? They have to bite the dog for the oral stuff to work, with the collars there dead b4 they bite. Food 4 thought. Collars work for 8 months. Good deals online usually. X2
I don’t trap because I want to I trap because I have to

Permethrin spray. Incredibly inexpensive. I use the same stuff I spray my clothes with to spray on my dog. Around his head and neck I soak a rag and rub him down with it. He hasn't had a flea or tick in years. Can't really remember the last time.
Nowadays it just don't pay to be a good 'ol boy.

People get snookered into paying WAAAYYY too much money for pets. $20 for a quart of Absorbine's "UltraShield EX" lasts all summer. Stops fleas and ticks for two weeks, mosquitoes and flies for three days. Totally waterproof, so spray the dog twice a month and forget about it. $40 for a vial of Ivomec (1% Ivermectin solution which treats heartworm and a few other worms) lasts five years for one dog. We've been using the above for over a decade on many dogs. Easy, safe, effective and CHEAP. So for $140 you're good for five years. Less than $30/year. But hey, it's your money. Do what you want. See www.terrierman.com for some down to earth talk about dog health care.
