You can cut them like big French fries and the seasoning you use will determine a lot of the flavor. Sort of like a potato. We had some tonight with dinner fried in Fry Krisp. Not one of the “smart guys” on here either. I try to enjoy nature’s bounty. I wondered if I'd bread and fried them if they'd be like button mushrooms. May saute some in butter and garlic. I got plenty to try the big one was 7lbs! and bigger than a basketball. Anytime I've tried them in the past they were just pretty bla, not much flavor to em.

Excellent table fare, but they must be fresh. Cut them, and if it's pure white, you're good, if yellowish, a bit stale, brown pitch 'em.

Jamie, if they are even the slightest bit yellowed inside they won't be worth a hoot. They should look like cream cheese. I always brown in butter....sliced not too thick. Some like them thicker, you'll have to experiment.

Some like them thicker, you'll have to experiment. That's my favorite way to cook them, too. I don't find many around here anymore. I got all excited over the last one I found and it ended up being full of worms.

Giant puffballs are not my favorite mushroom to eat. They are okay and I will eat small amounts of them. But I don't find them appealing enough to eat an entire puffball. I think the texture of them is sort of mushy and there's not much flavor to them.
I was just reading that when dried they can be used very effectively as a tinder for fire starting. Actually I think they are more of a spark catcher that smolders for a long time making it useful for setting a tinder aflame.

I find them to have a very weak flavor compared to most wild mushrooms.
I like to use them for filler in a big batch of mushroom soup.
I cook them down with the aromatics, and then puree the heck outa them.
Then I add a bunch of other sautéed wild mushrooms for flavor.
Some people refuse to see the truth when you bludgeon them over the head with it.

Those things and 10 pounds of Tannerite would be a hoot.
I have nothing clever to put here.
