I just finished up cutting up a bucket of hot peppers tonight to do some canning. I washed my hands good with hot soapy water. It's been about 2 hours and if I accidently rub my eyes it burns like fire. How long does it take this stuff to wear out!

Well if you can't keep your own hands from rubbing your eyes, try putting some mittens on or something.

Capsaicin is an oil. Wash your hands a few more times with a good strong soap. You could also try rubbing cooking oil on your hands and then washing them. It might help pull some of the capsaicin out. Just do it before you have to pee.

Did you wash with regular hand soap? You may try washing with a dish soap or lava soap, and use a wash cloth as well. Capsaicin is like an oil, it repels water, so may not be easily cleaned with regular hand soap.

Peeing is not going to be fun. Not sure hot the are that you cut up but I did some Carolina reapers, washed my hands and went pee. Not much fun.

Pour a bit of vegetable oil in your hands and rub them like you are lathering a bar of soap. Then, wash your hands with Dawn dishsoap. Repeat as needed.
The oils can stay on your hands for a day or two...next time wear nitrile gloves lol.

Just happy to be here.

Blue dawn liquid dish washing soap will break down the oleo capsicum resins that are burning you. We used it in the police academy and when we pepper spray trained our guards.

Blue dawn also kills fleas on contact. It's great stuff.

I just cut up a habanero from the garden for some salsa. Wore my blue nitrile gloves I use for skinning (I think they were a fresh pair) and my eyes were still feeling it as soon as I cut into the pepper.

Toothpaste works pretty good to clean peppers off your hands.

I eat a lot of hot peppers, I just wear latex gloves now when putting them up. Jalapenos stuffed with jalapeno cream cheese and wrapped in bacon is a meal.
