our coon are like the old movie--"the good, the bad,and the ugly.".quite a difference north to south also in my opinion.square inches is the ticket right now and them big western/midwestern buggers would blow your mind size wise if you have only ever trapped in PA area like me.interesting to see what others think.

if you do get a big one with decent color he'll be wet and you wont see the rub till he's skinned and drying. smile

I think our coon mostly grade semi heavy. In a market that only wants the best of the best, I expect our coon will remain cheap for big primes ones and the smaller, less prime sizes unsalable.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I haven't shipped coon in 5-6 years, but if I remember correctly most graded eastern or Canadian. Don't catch piles of coon, but a decent number off canine or mink lines so take it for what it's worth. I'm guessing it would be a challenge to average 7-8 bucks off finished PA coon this year, hopefully I'm wrong.

over the years i've skinned, fleshed, and stretched tens of thousands of coon for 3-4 bucks.as incidentals i'm convincing myself i'm makin out like a bandit at 7-8. crazy

tis a tough time in our industry for sure but not my first rodeo and i always seem to make it profitable somehow.

I hear ya. I was whooping it up after averaging ten bucks on 30 coon last year, while in reality it's a disgraceful price.

Southern PA coon run smaller than northern Pa coon for my area .Anything over 18 lbs is a very big coon for me .What pc2 and PAskinner said hold true for 98%of my catch. Once in a while I will get one that is big ,has good color and heavy fur .But most are lacking in one or more of those areas .And prices for good quality may not be real bad they drop of quickly and the smaller ones go unsold
