I know a kid that had the same reactions when he was younger. Thankfully he has kind of grown out of it and he wears latex gloves while gutting and skinning. Once it broke down to meat there is no issue.

Me. And I was a taxidermist for many years. As long as I took a OTC allergy pill I was fine, but the darn things SOMETIMES made me sick........other deer never bothered me. Same way with dogs. All cats were a problem, big-time.

Same thing , the hair makes me sneeze sometimes. About the only animal I've found. Probably cause they run through tons of pollen in the fall, who knows.

By the time I'm done gutting and dragging it out of the woods I need a shower. Nose is running like crazy and usually can't stop sneezing. Once I skin it I have no more problems. Cats get me going pretty good too, never had a wild cat to skin. Wonder if I'd have trouble with them?

One of the guys we hunted with was allergic to deer. He would break out and his eyes would water and swell up too. It did not stop him from hunting and shooting them, though. He was not overly fond of gutting and handling them much after that, though, but he hung in there just the same once he got one down.

Bobcats are horrible for me, but I work through them. Horses are probably my second worse. Hollow hair gets to a lot of people. Mule deer can be rough on some people.

Not any help here. I don't even get poison ivy. Heck, we don't even know what you mean by 'allergic'. Not being a smart butt, but I do know a couple folks that get poison ivy just by being down wind of it.

I have handled a lot of deer and have had the same issues as your boy had. It only certain years so I always thought it might be a mold on the hide that comes along under certain conditions some years.

I knew a guy who was allergic to his own hair. His name was actually Harry, but everyone know him by his nickname of Butch; no joke.
I lost track of him and his wife Sandy, they lived in Dillingham in the 70's then moved somewhere up on the Innoko River. Always wondered what became of them.
