you can use dirt to cover the screen on a pipe dream set as well. I use the blue salt that has calcium chloride in it deer don't mess with it. Honestly salts only corrasive to bare metal. A trap siting in a salted bed for a few weeks isn't going to be harmed! It will work on your cable stakes worse than the trap.
