Test the market. You can always bring them home If you don't like the price. I'm sure your buyer will let you know what the difference In the selling price would be.
If It were me I'd just sell green.

Castor is selling high right now so that's one reason I skin them. The other reason is that it's tough to beat a good pile of fresh beaver carcasses at the bait stations where I snare fox and coyotes. If your just selling fur it's probably not worth the extra work of fleshing and stretching for a couple extra bucks Ya, I got it skinned, castor drying, and carcass cut into bait. Bait is the main reason I still set for beaver, it's the best K9 bait out there.

Even if you were catching heavies, you would be lucky to average $20 on XL and up at Auction. Subtract commission.

The good larger ones sell for around 50-60 at FHA on the right sale.

That's not an overall avg Beav, that is for the larger undamaged hvy beaver. My point was if you are unsure to skin or not, those are the ones to skin.Even fall beaver that grade hvy in the larger sizes will be worth skinning and shipping. The price drops drastically for lt, dmg,as well as smaller sizes regardless of weight.

Top Lot all year at NAFA last year was $43 U.S.
FHA got a couple of Top Lots at $66 and $62.
Averages were similar.
Go for the Top Lot at FHA. You'll probably average less than $20 if you don't get one. Still might.

No offense, but you will not find a "heavy" beaver in Indiana unless Boco mails one to you. If they will buy green for $5 less than finished, you will be ahead selling green, in this market. Assuming, you have available freezer space, of course. Besides, if the market really got hot, you could always finish later.

This may help you understand the difference in prices between the HVY,SEMI and LT,as well as the SLT,from last years may sale. If you know what you have you can maximize your return by sending the right skins to auction. These were all taken in fall, open water. Beaver taken under ice will bring a premium.Dont forget to add $10 per beaver for castor. If you are selling beaver in the round do they give you an allowance if the castors have not been removed? If not then you are losing even more money.

That's Canadian money and I still don't see good larger ones bringing $50 or $60 dollars Canadian.
1X Select HVY XDK-DK ; pretty good beaver for $40.32 Canadian?

If you're in Canada or the northern tier states and catch beaver in the WINTER, the XLG and XXLG clean, prime, white leather skins were bringing $30-$52 USD. at FHA last May. These are worth skinning and fleshing, the rest are likely to end up as hatter beaver. FHA is getting some significant premiums on other sizes and, colors and grades, for instance LM size dark beaver were $25 USD. larges in the same grade were bringing close to $30 USD. If you catch northern prime beaver and understand fur quality and grades these are worth putting up. One fleshing hole in a skin and you're not going to get these prices.
