I am a very green new trapper. I have different sizes of conibears and tried the rope setting method described on this site. I could not get enough leverage to get a 220 set. I know i am just overlooking something but can't quite figure out what it is. Any suggestions?

Make or buy some proper setters.

Good strong bodygrips are a bugger to set by hand. If I didn't have XXL hands and long fingers I couldn't set them either.

I used to set any of them. I use the setters now.

I can set any of the strongest by hand no problem, but who wants to do that all day removing animals from traps when there is a tool that makes it so much easier and faster with no risk of damaging the critter.
The rope is handy as a safety device only.

Call me a sissy if you want, but I have a hard time setting #110's by hand. Certainly not #155's or #160's!

Same here...strong 220s are a bugger because the spring loops are quite small.
