Been making a couple colony traps while away from work. Will a door style like this work? I was told that it would catch more as the door will still function even if one gets jammed above it.

I use the split door design with great results. This design can even be made to be collapsible. I think an overall angle of your door would be better at being nearer 45 degrees. This would give more room for m'rats to get up into the death bite space and increased angle on a unreinforced door with prevent push outs from XL m'rats and larger mink, IMO. If you really want a door that steep bend over one extra row on each side or attach a "U" bent heavy wire to strengthen them.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

I agree with Drake. I would get the door at more of an angle but I REALLY like the bite space above. Genius.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Thanks for the input, I’ve never tried colony traps before so any advice is welcomed.

The extra weight on the door keeps it down more, remember that usually when they hit it they are swimming fast so that extra bump means nothing.

Get some discarded wheel weights 75-100 grams check to see that they are zinc with the little stamps on them and place close to the bottom. These work much better in culverts with a flow and the doors stay down then.

Has the grocery store started missing their carts yet?

So I didn’t like how low the hinge was on the last version so I modified the latest one just a bit more.[Linked Image]

Before doing any bending on the cage wire, use a bench grinder to clean-up all of the sharp edges where you made the cut. Your 31" gloves will thank you!
