I understand where you're coming from ! Just a couple comments. Data shows pretty clearly that GDP will not increase without some level of inflation. What the correct level is must be variable along with different sets of circumstances.
As far as deficit spending is concerned................and those in power being smart ( that's another discussion) the conflict is between monetary policy set by the fed and fiscal extravagance indulged in by Congress. Eventually we could reach a point where the next rise in rates breaks the camel's back because all of that deficit ( now debt) becomes so costly we can't even pay the interest . At that point the rating agencies will downgrade US debt and creditors will demand even higher rates to loan us money. Just makes the problem worse.
I agree to some extent about fiat currencies but I don't view gold as any help. There just isn't enough of it to allow commerce to continue as we know it today. I suppose there could be a digital currency that might be viable but that is some ways down the road I think.
Your comment about kids with student loans is one of my pet peeves. You're right.they are already in a hole so deep they can't amass any capital or make any progress toward the 'American Dream' . It's our fault, IMO, for pushing all kids to go to college. Not all of them belong in college and would be much better off......emotionally and financially if they pursued trade school. The country would be much better off too..IMO>
How many NBA players do we need or lawyers, or Facebook executives, or politicians................compared to builders, plumbers, electricians etc. ?? A digital currency ? are you kidding me ? We already have one. Do you even know how much paper is out there compared to how much is already digital ? How often do you pay with paper ? Your like a fiat chearleader. Gold and silver is the only real money. I believe the Constitution demands it be backed buy it.

Here's my advice. Get out of debt and put your money into hard assets that can do something for you before this train goes off the cliff.

What's the housing market doing as a whole? I know this thread is about stock markets. Just curious what some of you have to say.

Of course there is enough gold and silver and IMHO we will see a gold backed currency again. At the rate Russia and China are stockpiling it they will come out with a gold currency if for nothing else to use for trade between nations.

What's the housing market doing as a whole? I know this thread is about stock markets. Just curious what some of you have to say. IMO with rising rates housing will start to slow but still a bargain at where the rates are at, when you compare to the 80's. In the 80's home loan rates where from 10 to 14%. So once rates go up sales slow for homes, then there are more homes on the market, right? When there are more homes on the market, then price come down on homes. When price of home go down and rates go up, it is also a good time for buyers because price is down and people will pay more for rates. Sometimes it is a trade off.

What about the predictions that the stock market would take off after the tax cut?
Jim The stock market did take off. The market looks forward. It had a big run up in anticipation of the great economy we now have. It is currently backtracking due to higher interest rates, a slowdown in the skyrocketing unsustainable growth due to tax cuts and deregulation, and the anticipation that the Democrat/Socialist House will, for political purposes, do everything in their power to undo the great economic strides we have made.

Jim That was just another form of QE and it did blow the bubble bigger. It went straight to stock buy back's and into the pocket's of shareholder's and CEO's. It was not invested into the companies as promised.

More and more fiat dollar's has to be borrowed into existance in greater and greater amount's or it collapses. Fun Fact...There is only 1.5 trillion in printed dollars the rest is all digital.
