I bought a death ray from Lee last spring and am just now getting to use it. I thought he told me there’s a certain way to use it to prolong the cable life. After I dispatched 5 coons and the cable broke I realize I’m doing it wrong. I know he is a busy guy and hated to bother him. Anyone know what I could be doing wrong?

I think I would give him a shout and see what he can do.

I have never been told that a cable broke before. When you say it broke, do you mean it broke in two, or that it got kinked up? Guess I need somemore details before I can advise you on what to do.

Lee, it completely broke into two pieces. After the first dispatch the cable got kinked and frayed. After the 5th one it completely broke. It seems to be happening at the end of the death ray. It’s got to be something I’m doing wrong. That thing is absolutely awesome BTW.

I’ve been using mine for 2 years with no problems. Make sure you get the part where the cable attaches and goes into the tube right between the ears and you should be fine. I dispatch coon and possum with no problem. Sometimes, it helps if you settle the critter down with a little nose tap or bft.

Like I said, no one has ever said that they had a cable break. The kinking is coming from not getting the cable positioned right. Like Dfabs said, a nose knock allows you time to position the cable, and to make the cable last without major kinking,ir needs to be positioned on the neck where the cable goes straight into the barrel. You surely know what an edge does to a cable, and that is what happenswhen you just slap iton the critter, with no regards to how it is positioned. If the cable makes a reverse bend where it goes into the barrel, it draws the cable over the edge. of the barrel, thus making a kink in the cable. That is very importent and when I sell them in person at the conventions, I tell people all about how to operate it. Did you buy at a convention or order it off the internet?

ive yet to change to the spare cable mine came with. I don't even follow instructions to good. mine has been bit multiple times. I just straighten the kink out and use it again, thing even works on badgers. if your selling skulls it wont take long to pay for. time not spent washing blood out of your skins the best thing.

I have to change out my cable too, just haven't gotten to it, and I'll figure it out. I have straitened the cable a few times.
