What I mean is it wont hang up when pushed into the jaws like Les said.Up or down. The hang ups happen when the trigger is pushed toward the outside. If you don't set the LDL double jaw mags that way,you will be changing trigger wires a lot.The only exception is when you set the trap with the L configuration in the box with the opening down. The marten and other animals trigger the trap with a pull on the cross wire,so the trap is placed in the box opposite in that case with the trigger on the inside.

Someone should post that utube with the marten going in and out of a LDL trap. You would re-think how good they are. Interesting you can even see deer mice going in and out during the visits.

I set my trigger on the bottom. But I usually chase beaver in the spring. My thought is to keep less metal on the back of the beaver to do less damage to the fur. This is just the way I have done it for years. Beav you are right about the untuned trigger. Was in a hurry last spring and changed out a broken trigger on a 330. Never tuned it and set the trap. The next morning the trigger was laying flat on the bottom and the trap never went off. Got a quick exchange.

In my and many other's opinion,LDL traps are the best marten traps bar none.Best trigger, and design, perfect size and weight and the dog nor trigger ever touch the fur.Developed and manufactured right here in Kapuskasing.Beaver and otter traps are excellent also.
Guy made a lot of videos on our traplines when he was testing the traps and yes, female marten can go in and out past any trap. But there are ways to set, like the L shaped trigger with the box opening down that eliminates that.Or like I do and wax the traps.

Or use pan trigger traps set about 4 inches in front of the bait recessed deep into a box.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Right, tomcat, pans would eliminate that too.A lot of the time the way you set is more important than the trap you choose. The best trap wont do the job if its not set right.
I use LDL.Sauvageau and belisles on my trapline.
