I will be taking mine in September when I turn 66, they pay behind so my first check won't be until October or November.

I waited till my FRA thats long enough for me !! Still be able to continue work with out any penalty to the SS check which is a plus for me, the only reason I waited, as I knew I would never retire voluntarily !

Pretty sure they did away with this option. The file and suspend thing was nice, as if you found out you were going to die soon, you could start up and get all those pack payments to spend before death. Now it just stops everything. Might want to read up on it.

My break point from 62 to 70 is 78 1/2. I plan on using my saving up until I'm 65 or longer. Mainly to protect my wife's spousal benefit. More than likely she will live longer and will benefit from my delay if I pass.

One of the reasons the government offers so many options is that almost everyone's situation is different. If their options help you in your long term planning options than utilize the ones that work best for you. If you think the government is the only providers of service that know the odds then you may want to spend some time with some insurance and other financial product advisers as the most of them are in it for the profits.

My wife took a restricted benefit. It is availabe to spouses born around 1950. It allows her do draw 50 percent of my benefit and then draw her full benefit in two years when she turns 70. It is sweet. Not available to everyone so check it out out if one of a couple is about age 67 now. RESTRICTED BENEFIT. You can have your cake and eat it too. One spouse must be drawing SS and the other envokes their restricted beneft, which is not a penalty against max benefit at 70.

didn't read the whole thread, but if you don't RELY on it, it's just gravy (if it still exists when you retire)...

Did your wife work? I know some older couples that the wife stayed at home to raise the kids. Yes the wife can draw a benefit but it is coming off the back side of the husbands amount. If and when something happens to you OR you reach max benefit age your amount will be reduced over the amount you could have received. ( monies have to come from somewhere) because you worked for it !!! lol
