Maybe I should try a different forum. Someone has likely made one , even if it didn’t work out .

I'm not sure what your talking about but my curiosity is getting to me, are you talking about a grinder that attracts to the 3 point on a tractor and perhaps runs of the PTO? If you are I want pics if u come up with some. And what are you wanting to grind in it, whole carcasses?

Golfball have you considered a heavy duty gear reduction motor or just the transmission I got one from a old harvest door powered by a 1/2 hrs 110 motor it has the strength to bend a 3/4" solid shaft. For grinding bone you want hp not speed. Always remember bad things happen at high speed

I will try and remember to get a picture this evening, this thing has a big pully on the back of it now . Was thinking of using a shaft from the pto to a mounted bearing with a small pully and then connecting to a belt. Maybe this plan is foolish and I should just go back to an electric motor ?

you could always us a Chevy Chevette engine and transmission like the guy in a book I read a decade ago..........was it Graham or Nelson or O'Gorman?...it cold have been a motor off a Datsun B210 or such.

he had it on a trailer so he could go from ranch to ranch and grind up a dead cow or horse as fast as they could cut it off.

Lol thanks John ! My thoughts on using the tractors pto was kinda geared along those lines. I’ve no need of grinding a cow or horse in these parts but typically have from five to ten deer a year hit on the road on the east side of my property. I was thinking it would be a simple matter to mount the grinder and drive the tractor down , move the carcass out of sight , cut out the back straps and other easy chunks and grind. I also catch a few musk rats every year and gut them for bait . Grinding them whole seems like a good way to make a quick “ fresh “ bait .

Yes a wood chipper will work , lol ! Don’t ask me how I know that it will make a mess out of an opossum. A frozen carcass would probably come out about like one that had been chopped up with a cleaver and would also likely have the stringy bits still connected .

I don’t see the chipper being anything more than a way to reduce a ( frozen) carcass into a more manageable product for the grinder.

that's actually all I was hoping for! I know were a small one is that's got a 5" adjustable throat its missing the motor but I got a 16 hrs kohler sitting idle. I've got a chest freezer full of gutted frozen ground hogs id like to make into a managable mess

Tony good luck ! You may have to use an ax or sawzall to make the bigger frozen ones go through . Small young one should be ok, would be best if they are frozen . I would also make sure the cutting knives and bed knife are in good shape, the bed knife or anvil is every bit as important as the cutters .
Good luck !
