First off, I'm not a snare guy.
Only did it for 2 years semi hard core. Not sure if I ever printed this before but it worked well.
Middle of summer, I went to spots I had scouted with a sprayer of round up and made narrow trails through grass, and just spots that looked good.
Come fall, those trails became great spots to snare.
Same with footholds. We have mostly ago fields here and a trap set in a field had a good chance of getting " combined"
A burned down with round up just inside cover right off field edges worked very well.
Just a tip I thought I'd share that worked well and have never heard talked about.

Good idea. Narrowing fence crossings and trails in the off season with branches, wire, cattle panels, etc will pay for itself too.

I once used a trimmer to make trails, Roundup probably easier

drive your atv through the tall grass will make trails

I like to make the animals create their own trails before setting.
Although ATV, Snowmachine tracks,and other man made trails will be used by animals if they go where the animal wants to go also.

It's like the movie Field of Dreams "If you build it they will come" We create the easy spot and the critters will use it.
