It's really frustrating to put the time, fuel, and effort into trapping bobcats just to have some jerk steal an animal when you do finally connect.

Its a shame there are so many thieves. Maybe the dude will die in a car wreck on the way home

i know there was a trapper here in my state that had three in one day. he recovered one and the other two were stolen from him.

They gotta tag the thing give the game dept a heads up maybe a guy will try to tag it without a trapping license and get tripped up when questioned.

I was 20 plus years into my career when my only cat was taken. 10 years later, I’m still Fuming !

With the prices top-end bobcats have been bringing, I suspect this may become more prevalent ? Back in the 80’s when female fisher were bringing upwards to $300 per pelt, I had a fisher taken from my trap by a deer hunter.

It would be funny if a guy without a trapping license tried to turn in a trapped cat and to see just how he would try to explain that! LOL Report it you have nothing to lose.

In Montana,your licence has to be validated for bobcat,before the season starts.I always thought that was dumb but..........

Reported it to our local fish cop, said not much he could do. He did say that it has been a problem over the last couple years.

I have the luxury of having a lot of private ground to trap and it is very hard to access. That still doesn't keep trespassers out. I run a lot of scouting cameras just in case. I've had the law involved before and they were very helpful.

I would not be in a good frame of mind if I caught someone doing that to me.

Our cats have to be tagged by a warden or department personnel. If you get caught tampering with someone's traps, it's a three year forfeiture of any license issued by Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.

Maybe it was a kid still too stupid to know better, and the thrill of the situation got the better of him. You still lost a cat, but if was just a stupid kid, at least it wasn't a crooked adult.
Do plenty of talking around town. Maybe someone heard about a random cat someone "found". Stupid kids ain't real bright.

Had that happen several times before. Not only lose the cat and usually the trap also. All the work and time. The most valuable thing that is lost is the location for use in future years. Hard to reset the spot.

I had one stolen a few years back and knew who did it but he got away with it because the game warden wouldnt persue it because his dad was a deputy sheriff . The dumb thing was he sold it to a fur buyer friend of mine that i called and the sex weight and freezer burned nose all matched and the time frame when he supposedly caught it . Gotta love small town politics
