They don't always make it through a snare. And it's been my experience that a cat will step through a snare and go right through it if the loop is big enough.

Terrific pictures. Nice and fully furred. It almost seems they jump thru just to see if they can?

I think animals naturally put their head thru a loop.A few times I have dispatched live lynx with a snare on a pole,I move the snare very slowly towards their head, and when its close they stick their head thru.Any jerky movements makes them swat the snare or pole. Lynx are notorious for going thru snares.I make most of my loops 6in diameter for lynx. The old trappers would call them ghost lynx when their tracks showed they went right thru a 8in snare without breaking stride or even touching the snare.

Neat to see how different animals act under different circumstances. I caught a fisher in a coyote snare last year a month after the season. Lucky for both of us he was still very much alive when I got there. How he managed to get caught in a 10" loop is besides me. Interesting time releasing him but got it done without any harm to either one of us.

You dont understand, fisher season in Mn has been over for 2 months. This is set for coyotes with weeds covering the bottom and a hanging in the middle. I understand completely, but failed to deliver the implied humor. My apologies .
