Has anyone sold any raccoon this weekend? I am getting closer to being done scraping every day. LLL

Rock on, LLL, rock on. You're an iron man catching and working that many coons!

I was at the truck.

Most of the coon were green skinned. And there wasn't much put up coon. And like I said I didn't talk to every one. But the people I did talk to were In the $11.00 averages on the put up stuff but I didn't do any grading.
Guy did say that he had never seen such poorly handled fur as he had on this trip. One guy took home about 50 green skinned coon. I asked guy what the problem was. He said that most of those coon were still froze and that he couldn't actually see what the guy had.
But for the most part a few coon mostly rats and a ton of deer hides. And a few coyotes.

Good luck

What were the sizes Beav ? I keeping hearing the only money is in 3XL and up. Our state auction is next Saturday , so I'll find out then if letting all those 2XL and under go was a mistake or not.

I never measured them. The $5.00 one was scratched necked. They were Incidentals to coyote trapping and were the only coon I caught.

90% of the coon being offered were In the grease or carcass coon.

Keep us updated what you find. I've got a pile of coon to sell when I get them finished also.

Does not seem like anyone wants to finish coon any more. I think that is a huge mistake for most. I think they will be a surprise at auction. LLL

Not finishing them seems to be a mid-west thing. If we didn't finish coon, they wouldn't be worth a thing. (hardly are finished)

I can add 5-10 bucks to each by finishing them. That adds up when you have a K or two. LLL

NAFA use to charge $2.50 to scrape and board a coon So I don't know If finishing your coon Is going to add $5.00 or $10.00 too the price. I know for sure It won't get you that much more at a groney stop.

I know many guys who have sold green in the country for four to six bucks this season. I sold a few around the first of January for 11.75 average finished to a buyer who is not known for buying coon. Top price of finished coon for my area is 25.00. You said the top price on green (I assume) was 18.00. I also know a friend who sold 80 finished coon (his season catch) for a 16.00 average on Thursday to a GFW buyer.

Having your fur finished allows you and the buyer to know what is there to include size. It is always a value to a trapper to finish fur if they can and have the means to do so. LLL

No doubt. We can't get that much for finished was my point.

I understand fully. My comment was more toward Beav. Your comment on finishing them for 2.50. If people thought that was not going to add value they would not have paid you to do them. LLL

I think your right about the auction being a surprise Larry. I only shipped 50 and wish I would've shipped all I had finished but I'd be real happy to unload them for $16.

I don’t think Groeny pays more than a couple bucks for put up. When putting up fur really increases your value is at the auction house. IMO

Finishing your fur also adds options. If you don't like the first buyer you can look around for someone else, hold for a latter date, ship to other buyers, or the auction house. Have them tanned and sell them at craft shows and rendezvous, if you so choose, I'd rather spend the time fishing than at a craft show though. In 35 years of finishing my fur [50 trapping] there has been only one year where I though maybe it wasn't worth the effort, but I have always got more for finished fur over green.
