I知 doing alittle research for an article I知 toying with about traps with jaws with teeth. I have a interest and collect them. I plan to include some history of different stock traps as well as trapper mods. I知 curious without googling every state痴 trapping regs, if I can help shorten the search by asking you which states allow or ban traps with teeth and if permitted on land, water, or both.

I dont intend to list the states in article or anything I知 just curious how regulated their use is. We have no restriction in my state.

Thanks, MP

Hey! Hope all's good in your world.

IDAHO - No restrictions regarding toothed traps. Interesting, back in the late 60s and 70s when I trapped in Idaho, toothed traps were not legal. Now they are okay.

No teeth or serrations on traps in Delaware or Maryland

No foothold traps at all in New Jersey.

Are you sure about that? I thought tooth traps have always been legal in Idaho. Just wondering. smile

That's because you were still in Wisconsin in the late 60s and early 70s, Nancy. I don't remember when they changed the regulation.

While doing your article, please include the reasons why they are banned in most states and why trappers themselves do not prefer them.

We get many, many more chew outs with toothed traps. The reason is they hurt! When an animal's foot is hurting, he will chew at it. Smooth jaws do not hurt. They just restrain. Therefore the animal is more comfortable in the trap and much less likely to chew out.

I know you already know this, but it will help the anti trapping public to know these facts.

Thanks.

WRONG!

The 'wolf relocation program' used toothed traps, because they cause LESS damage to the feet of the trapped wolves. The teeth are not sharp, by the way, and they allow more open space within the jaws to aid in circulation. Increased circulation prevents numbness in the foot, and eliminates chewing.
