No problem making the slots from the back, just leave room for the springs to expand. In other words don't rest the springs against the end of the slot towards the front of the box. But frankly I think your wasting your time.

Time or timing? Eagleye things should b happening in early March here in WI. Unfortunately you picked a terrible weather time. I can’t imagine the beaver trapping was a whole lot better ? In my experience, if you keep digging you’ll find something. Good luck

Nimzy- I ended up with (11) beavers in 8 days, I pulled traps on Monday and the temp was -26F. Taking a couple days off and then back at it.

The problem I see are the slots to receive the top. In wet weather those slots and the top slats may absorb water and swell up and may freeze. I'm thinking a hinged top may be a better choice.

I agree they could swell and or freeze fast. That one is just a prototype, the ones I will make and use will be made from log faces from the mill.
Those will left on site all year, and set when season opens. I will address the freezing issue by making the door slots a little wider, a the door a tad bit narrower. Thanks for the input Beav

I like the two trap design wetdog ! If your going for a four day check you may as well be ready for a second mink . Question, what was the deciding factor that allowed you to have a prolonged check on your weasel boxes, out of sight out of mind maybe ?

the base plate for 2x6 steel stud walls makes a nice lite weight mink box dozen pop rivets and they will last centurys. sorry no pics I just leave the bottom open. Down fall they are to small for 155s but 120s work perfect.

The 2 trap system has some merit But. I would rather have 50 1 trap boxes set on sign then 25 2 trap boxes. It's going to hard enough to get one mink to commit let alone 2 .
But nothing ventured nothing gained.

I would rather have 20 dirt holes up in the hills for mink than 200 boxes set out for them LOL.
