Lost my 15-year-old Blue Heeler on Friday. She had to be put down. Died in wife's arms. Broke our hearts. At 72 now, I doubt I'll get another dog, but never say never.
That heeler was at my side all day and night. We were never apart. I could read her mind and she could read mine. So smart, so loyal, and never asked but one favor - Daddy, please don't leave me, let me ride with you. I had to leave her, and it has torn my heart out.
We have all been through this. Sure if hard, isn't it?

They just don't make them last long enough. Very sorry for your loss.

It truly is like losing a family member. Last time it happened to me I was in a deep dark place for way too many months. So sorry for your loss.

You had a good run with her. As I'm sure she did with you.

We have all been through this. Sure if hard, isn't it? I have a story for you that may help. My Setter died decades ago and I have not been able to get another dog. She was with me every day and had a habit of hanging my hand over the back of the chair when I watched television. My dog would often enough stick her cold nose into my hand and make me jump. Weeks after she died, I had my hand over the back of the chair and I jumped as i felt her nose in my hand. Over the years usually before some emotional event, I could feel that dog's presence. My brother after his dog died, said he woke up one night and saw my Setter setting there. I firmly believe that like God puts His Spirit into good people, that good people put their imprint into their animals and someone energized they live on. I am certain your dog checks on you and is with you, and you will see them again in Heaven. I read a story once of a person who had a near death experience and was in Heaven and saw a dog and a horse looking at her, and then looking past her. She asked what it was all about, and was told, they were waiting for their master to come join them. You will see your Heeler again.

I'm sure I've shed more tears over dogs than I have for people. Maybe that doesn't sound quite right, but it's the truth. Me too, by far. I have a Heeler that is 9, he has been by my side since he was 5 weeks old. Every year I notice he is a little grayer around the muzzle and a little slower. I catch myself just watching him sleep by the woodstove. I'm sorry yours has left your side, Charles.

Like you, I got her about 5 weeks, she came to me when I was an Animal control officer in a box. She is also getting gray and limps after a hard play with the 9 month old yellow lab I just got. I hope to have a few more years with her. I dread the day when I have to make the very difficult call to send her to dog heaven. Charles, take some time. As you know, there is another one out there needing to be loved. Sarge

Sorry to hear Charles, I feel your pain.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.
