Anybody on here from down there who grows fruit? I'd like to get a few apple and peach trees in this spring on my place..anybody down there have any suggestions? I got a feeling some of what I grow here wont do as well down that way with the warmer weather.

Mud,

You could look at university of md.;, Md. dept of Ag;. or talk to Vessey Orchards between Westover and Marion Station. They go several varieties of apples and peaches. I can tell you figs grow well for me along with concord grapes and one variety of muscadine grapes.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Good to know Morgan thank you. I’ve done concords here and enjoyed them but the hill I own here made maintenance a pain. I assume blueberry does ok there? I’d love to get a few things in the ground this month down there before we start the house. I know which parts of the property will be undisturbrd.

I wasn't clear on if your "place" is in NJ or MD, but if in MD, and you have room for a persimmon or pawpaw, Maryland will give you $25 per tree.

$25 Coupon link

The list of other qualifying trees is on the left on the link.

I have a few apple trees but they don't get enough sun to produce much. Watch out for cedar rust too.

Good luck.

Thank you! Had no idea. We’re moving to Worcester county this summer, leaving Nj.

Blueberries do fine, some commercial growers here. One at Eden along rt.13 I think. Also I have triple crown blackberries, unbelievable producer. So many commercial strawberry growers here I don't even bother planting them.

We are gonna be just outside public landing on the southern end. Probably renting for at least 6 months hopefully nearby while the place is built. Hope to be outta here by mid June. Can’t come soon enough.

Lots of farm land down that way. And the Pocomoke forest. Pocomoke city is not the best place, The town of Snow hill is a little better area . Then of course Berlin and Oceancity in the north during the summer is just packed. Good luck on the move . Ive been here sense 1972.
