Any suggestions on chain length and size for adding to wolf fangs earth anchors for coyotes? Using K9 extremes and MB550 traps with about 18" of chain with 3 swivels.

How long is your driver? That's what I go with. #3 chain.

It is a 24" driver from FNT. So go 24" with #3 chain? We hardly ever get frozen ground and a lot of it is sandy soil.

I probably shouldn't have chimed in. I use MB super Stakes with MB 550s. The stakes come with eighteen inches of chain attached and that's what I use. We're required to have three swivels. I hook the stakes to the last swivel and drive them in the ground until the last swivel is just above grade.

We have dark, rich soil but it can be boney. I've never damaged a stake by hitting rock. You can pound the daylights out of them and they retain their shape. I have a stake puller to get them out. That's the only way they're coming out.

I have been looking in to the super stakes. I thought about making some. Is it cheaper to piece them out and put them together or buy them assembled?

I've never checked into that but one attractive feature of buying them with the chain connected is having the hook welded to the stake. I don't have ready access to a welder so I bought them complete.

I gave myself the option of using rebar or the stakes. I've gotten completely away from rebar, the stakes hold so much better.

I cut the 16" chain stake chain down to 12" and it works very well. Easy to bed without all the extra "stuff" (chain/swivels/etc).

I just measured mine. Seventeen and one half inches as sent from MB. I have six links of chain between each swivel.

That's a pretty slick set up. I have not seen one that has both a rebar anchor and a drive in anchor. I am going to look in to parting them out, I have access to a welder and it may be worth looking in to it. I bought some traps that had duckbill anchors on them but they didn't seem to be very rugged so I took them off and have had wolf fangs with cable but I think the super stakes will be the way to go.

One of the frustrating things around here is the rocky soil. Some times I can drive past a rock and other times I hit them squarely. It takes some pounding to figure out which situation I'm in. The stakes show no signs of wear. Get the hardened driver if you go the stake route.

Got ya. I'm required to have a minimum of three swivels and it seems like I ought to mix some chain in there somewhere. Maybe I should just go with three swivels.

Earth anchor w/ a welded mighty S hook, then 10" American made #2 chain to a MTP crunchproof... drive the crunchproof 2" below ground so it's right at bed bottom level when set... use an MTP heat treated driver and a puller from Scott at Blue Ridge...

After all that said....I still prefer 24" 3/8" rebar w/ a 20-30 degree bend a 1/3 way up from the bottom. It's easier for me to pull and set at the edge of the catch circle w the same trap... I just leave the catch circle as is.
